I know it's a bit of a spinoff from the favourite guitarists post but i was wondering what people's favourite rhythm section's in bands are.

for me i'd say that in my opinion the best rhythm section in a rock band would be Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk from Rage against the machine.

as for individuals here are my favourite bassists and drummers

1.David grohl (drums)
2.Keith Moon (drums)
3.Roger Waters (bass)
4.Krist Novoselic (bass)
5.John Bonham (drums)

Bass:
Jack Casady,

Saw a great t-shirt a few years ago: "If you don't know Jorma, you don't know Jack."

Yes, it's a great shirt. I've seen a few myself. And ain't it the truth!

ROFLMAO!

Okay, now that I've wiped the coffee off my monitor and keyboard ... my personal favorite rhythm sections or participants therein:

Neil Peart + Geddy Lee

Topper Headon + Paul Simonon + Joe Strummer

Phil Rudd + Cliff Williams + Malcom Young

James Jamerson

Chuck Rainey + Bernard Purdie + Cornell Dupree (check out Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady" for a killer funk rhythm workout)

And Bootsy, just because he's Bootsy ...

Greenday.

This band is all about solid rhythm guitar and melody.

Guitar - Billie Joe Armstrong

Bass - Mike Dirnt

Drums - Tre Cool

I can hear Billie singing in my brain right now :D

Well, gotta say Lee and Peart for pure technical skill, but from an "in your face" point of view, I'll say McBain and Harris from Iron Maiden.

Maurice and Verdine White (drums and bass resp.) - Earth, Wind and Fire

Bruford and Squier - Yes (didn't like Alan White as much for some reason, but props anyhow)

Doug Clifford (drums), Stu Cook (bass), Tom Fogerty (r. guitar) - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding (though I liked Mitch better than Noel, who didn't seem as locked in to Mitch. Props to Noel, who made the journey recently)

Better I think, was Buddy Miles and Billy Cox.

Ringo and Paul and John: Ringo is better than most people give him credit for, giving Paul a chance to be really melodic when he wants. John was as solid a rhythm player as anybody and not a bad lead player.

The Allman Brothers rhythm section - 2 drummers (Butch and Jaimo) and Mr. Berry Oakley on bass!

I really didn't think much of the Ten Years After drums/bass. Maybe because they were so distorted at the time I couldn'lt really hear what they were doing.

Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit - the Eagles. Real clean, clear and tight.

Yes, Ringo is a much better drummer than people give him credit for. Several years ago I saw him with his All-Starr band when Jack Bruce was playing bass. They did a couple of Cream tunes -- "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love". Ringo played his heart out and sounded great on them. Could've been Ginger Baker if you closed your eyes.
