Holy c#$%, I just got my first srv cd, can you believe I've never actually heard one of his songs before. Texas flood pretty much blew the hair off my head, well thats my excuse anyway.

Just amazing music. There's something in the solo, about 3 mins into the song or so, I thing it's a series of double stop bends, but i'm not sure. Love the sound though. You can feel every note.....

anyway, just thougth I'd share. Even more motivation now

Cheers
Brian

I don't understand, I got the guitar, and the beer, the commercial said I'd be a rock star by now...

he was a genius or possesed.

Clapton once thought about quiting guitar after he heard him.

another SRV fan here. love pretty much everything he did.

My inlaws and I have a running fued: they say hendrix was better, I say SRV took everything hendrix was and took it up a notch and threw in more blues.

Yea, big SRV fan here too..It you wanna hear some more of his stuff, you could always check out the many greatest hits CDs (with Double Trouble, etc.). But also, for some really good songs that weren't as popular, it's always good to get the live CDs/DVDs too. Here is pretty much all of his stuff from Amazon.com - like 91 CD listings. Enjoy!

Hmmm....Somehow I doubt that.

Until recently, the only SRV song I was really familiar with was his cover of Mary Had a Little Lamb, and that's only because it gets regular airplay on XM Kids.

I 100% agree with that, The thing I liked about SRV was that it seemed like even though he wasn't formally trained on guitar, he seemed like he knew the things about guitar that we all want to figure out (and if i knew what those things were, I would probably be famous too). Hendrix was a bit too "artsy" and psychadelic for me, still a great guitar player and if I could play even a fraction as good as Hendrix I'd be happy, but I just think SRV had something more.

 GAARRRRR, watch out w/ the hendrix comments...... 8) I really dig SRV's covers of hendrix, but jimi created little wing and voodoo chile and they are often imitated but never duplicated.

That's true, and I will give credit where credit is due (and I think I did with the "I wish I could play with a fraction of the talent that Hendrix had" comment), but again, I just prefer SRV's music.

SRV is just nuts. I think his influence has had a tremendous effect on John Mayer's music too. I liked Mayer before (cept for that Your Body Is A Wonderland crap), but The John Mayer Trio is just so much better and SRV has a major influence on Mayer's recent bluesiness. Mayer's signature Strat looks almost exactly like SRVs, and Mayer even played the SRV strat for a long time.

and yeah, Hendrix is the man too.
