Great list, although I wouldn't compare Gibson with Mercedes Benz. Gibson does not have that kind of quality.
But all in all, that was pretty accurate. :D
Ha - you haven't read up on the Mercedes quality control record over the past 5 or 6 years. Very similar to Gibson. Name brand is very good, but actual quality is not on par with brand.
The Benz = high brand recognition, good product, quality so-so
The same with Gibson.
Great point on Fender equalling Ford. Probably a better representation. I guess I was working off the price-point with that one.
Love the Godin = Saturn. I missed that one.
By the way, I drive an Ibanez.
I agree with Wes. MB may have suffered in the QC area, the fit and finish is still great -- not so, Gibson.
Godin isn't really Saturn. Seagull is Saturn. Both have spawned these die-hard, maniacal mini-cults.

Esteban - Trabant
I was thinking Lada.
Compared to a Trabbie, the Lada was quite upmarket (you even got a pot of touch-up paint, to match your car, with a new Lada).
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Some might even make it a Wartburg!!!!
I gotta tell you, this thread is a real example of what happens to people with too much time on their hands.

Yeah, I'll clarify that I'm an electric guy, so this post was electric-based. Sorry to all you Taylor, Seagull, Martin people.

I guess I drive a Gibson 280SL convertible.

Music is the universal language, love is the key.
I drive a Seagull and PRS. Soon to drive a Martin. I play a Saturn!
i would have compared Saturn to Godin because you get good value for the money. Squier is just cheap. I would have compared Lexus to Paul Reed Smith because I think of it as more of the luxury car. although Porsche certainly costs more.
re: Saturn. We are still getting "regularly-scheduled" Recall Notices, (despite numerous phone calls), three years after having disposed of the said " brand-new automobile". We must be up to about 20 by now. Yet, I've never had a recall on my Squier Series 24.
My Squier Series 24 is a SmartCar. Especially with gas prices these days.
Bitter rant over...

I drive an Eagle Vision. It is a nice car, but I've never seen another one.
I think it is like Danelectro's. Good guitar, but you never see one.
But I own one. :D

Esteban = Yugo!
I've made my living fixing things and take a lot of pride in my ability to at least being able to get something to run or play. The two blemishes on my record was a Yugo that wouldn't start no matter what I did and one of my buddys Esteban guitar that couldn't be made playable even if you set it on fire, buried the ashes in your garden, grow a tomato from it and ate it! You would probably die of indigestion!
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming......
like the passengers in his car.
I wasn't smoking anything, but it seems to make sense...
Are you SURE?
