After 30 years of being a professional musician, I think I agree.
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
Hunter S. Thompson
I'm not in the music business, just an amateur. But I think you could say that about any business, even the ones that are supposed to be nonprofit.

A songwriter friend of mine was just in LA, hanging out with a friend of his, an award winning producer (who shall remain un-named, but you've probably heard a lot of his work). The producer was working on a project, mixing down an album. My buddy spent a lot of time with him during the sessions, and at one point asked him "how do you know you're done with a mix"?
The producer and my buddy go way back - they had a band together in high school. So he got a remarkably honest answer:
"Whoever's paying for it runs out of money or time. Until then, you just keep working on it."
