D'Addario's....9's...on my electrics, also on the acoustics with wired bridges....I really do need to change some strings, good job I've got plenty in....last time I went to the guitar shop, they were on offer...a pack of three sets for £10, whereas they're normally £5.99 a set...so I bought 3 X 3-packs....

:D :D :D

Another vote for GHS Boomers. I use 'Thick N Thin's - 10-52s.

I used to use Slinkys of the same gage until someone persuaded me to give the Boomers a go. Amazing strings!!! Never going back.

I use the standard ernie ball super? slinkys the 9 gauge, they haven't snapped on me yet while playing, unless I was tuning up.

D'addario 10s&11s for the electrics and 12's for the western. They look like strings, feel like strings and make sounds I asociate with strings, so I guess they're ok.

Lots of people use 11's and up. I think I should try those, but it seems to me that it would make bending harder no?

Yeah, it makes bending harder. Most people with the super-ultra-heavy strings either play in Eb like SRV or go for metal tunings.

I use D'Addario 11s... Simply because I never tried anything else. Seems like I should try something else sometime. (heh, another good reason to go to the guitar shop again :D)

It makes bending harder, but I've found if you play with the heavier strings, it makes playing on lighter strings really easy. Oh, and I use Ernie Ball regular slinky strings, nothing fancy.

I did a search and nothing came up, so what are your favorite strings, and what size, and why. :?:

reason im asking is im a newbie to guitars and kinda clueless about what strings i should get

With me, it's dependent on fret gauge. I played for years and years on a strat and a Peavey T-60 with "vintage style" frets (low and thin). This means I'm accustomed to using a fairly firm finger pressure when fretting strings.

My more recent guitars have medium jumbo frets, which don't need as much finger pressure for the strings to fret properly, and will actually go sharp if I squeeze too hard.To keep things fairly consistent, I'll use a heavier gauge string on the guitars with the "taller" frets. For me it works out like so:

Strat & LP double cut - 10's
Tele and Ibanez - 11's

I can't use 09's at all. They disintegrate within hours.

Playing guitar and never playing for others is like studying medicine and never working in a clinic.

On my Ibanez, I use D'Addario .10s. The .09s are too tiny, even the .10s are a bit too small. On my Squier 51, I use D'Addario .11s, which feel much better but im thinking of taking it up to .12s.

And so Nils doesnt feel so bad, I use Martin 80/20 Bronze Lights on my Martin and Martin Silk and Steel Standards on my Fender.

And I tune all guitars, cept the Ibanez, Eb.
