Here's a pretty good site that may help. Check out the "Who Started It" & "Put It To The Test" sections.

Classic Rock 101
http://classicrock.about.com/od/history/a/crock_IOI.htm

Here's their choice for Top 10 albums
"This list covers only a fraction of the best classic rock albums. It represents a recommended starting place for developing a full appreciation of the genre"

1. Sticky Fingers [Rolling Stones]
2. Who's Next [The Who]
3. Led Zep IV
4. Wish You Were Here [Pink Floyd]
5. Revolver [the Beatles]
6. Alter Bathing At Baxter's [Jefferson Airplane]
7. Eric Clapton
8. Electric Ladyland [Jimi]
9. The Doors
10. Blonde on Blonde [Bob Dylan]

An album can become classic the day of its release, there's not really a timescale for this sort of thing.

I don't know if thats true Tucker, how are you going to know if its going to stand the test of time.
I have bought albums thinking they were great and after a few plays, never play them again.
A classic album in my view is one that has been around a good while and favoured by the majority.
To state that, "thats a classic" when its only been out for a short while is a bit like saying that the new "Vauxall Safira" is a classic car when we all know that there is only one classic car and thats the "Mini" LOL.

BTW here are a few more on my classic list

Electric Warrior-------------------T.Rex
Damn Right I got the Blues------Buddy Guy
Night at the Opera----------------Queen
Imagine---------------------------John Lennon
Rumours--------------------------Fleetwood-Mac

Only my opinion you understand
