Do you play for the audience, yourself or other musicians?

I play for myself and for the audience. when I play for myself I let it all out. I love the feel of the sound vibrations.
when I am gigging with the band it is all about accuracy, tone, sound level, communication w9ith my band mates and the crowd.
either way I am happiest when I have a guitar slung.

My audience, pure and simple.

I think, ultimately, for myself. When my band is playing a show, I'm playing for the audience. But, I enjoy playing for an audience because entertaining someone and them enjoying what I'm doing makes me feel good.

I play for the other musicians. I think playing for the audience disconnects the band performance. If your giving the band your best performance to bring them into it - the audience will get a better performance anyway. I write specific to the group I'm playing with, primarily the drummer and the singer.

Maybe this is incredibly simple, but I consider myself and the rest of the band (what I'm assuming you to mean when you say "other musicians" since there almost always will be a musician or two in the regular "audience") as part of the audience. That way Im only playing for whatever audience is around! Audiences (unless you're playing at home alone) are always made up of many different parts and having the mindset that all the performers are also part of the audience helps me work on connecting with all the various parts of whatever audience happens to be in attendance. I want to listen to and make contact with whomever is there.

Peace

I play for the audience, and in doing so I'm also playing for myself because I enjoy the dialog with the audience.

But the audience comes first (except that I will not take a gig that I am not able to fulfill - nothing is worse than being mis-booked - we are very versatile though).

I play because I love to play. So I play for me... sort of.

Sort of, because I play for a living. Music is my sole source of income, and it has been for many years. To make that happen, you play for your customers - whether that's the mother of the bride or the bar owner or the record producer doesn't matter. What they want me to play is what I play. I have as good a time as I can with it. Sometimes there's music I'd rather be playing, but in the big scheme of things I can play what I like on my own time and keep eating... or I can be an "artiste" and starve.

I like to eat. So it's the audience first.

Well Mostly I would say I play for myself. I say that, becouse its the creative outlet that I enjoy most. Now, I will say that part of that is also to share that with others... so I guess you could say that playing for a audience would help me enjoy playing... and the enjoyment is for me... So to answer... Yes. :D
