Who's Getting Gear This Year?

I was noticing that every week I am getting at least a Sam Ash "special" sale discount card and also Guitar Center almost as often. Also getting emails every few days from GC, MF and Sam Ash.

Then I lurk back around here and notice very few gear threads going on compared to what we normally have this time of year. I guess the economy has everyone tight?

I know I spent any spare change on my cheap kitchen redo. I'm getting nothing 'cept maybe a song book or two. Battleaxe asks me last night what I wanted and couldn't come up with anything that I needed or was GAS'ing for. I even looked in the gear ads and nothing struck me. Just as well. How much gear does one guy need anyhow? (I know....... p = h + 1)

my list for recording gear has grown oh so long. I have eebn getting email deals from sweetwater.com everyday.
it is so tempting to buy stuff, but this year I am not spending anything on gear.
I spent my money on paying off the new furnace. last payment went out monday. ya hoo.
the goal is to get rid of as much debt as possible. the mortage will take a while.

gear I want:

mic preamp
more expensive condernser mic
monitor control switch box
more monitors

maybe next year.

what are you getting? or not getting?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to wind up with a new bass before the holidays are over. I'm leaning towards an orange Ibanez SR300 at the moment. Either that or the five string version in the gray.

Nice bass! I was playing it when I bought mine. It has a great sound.

I put a drum machine in my Christmas list. Not very expensive, just something to play and practice. I love the metronome but...

Really I like all my gear, I'd need more time for playing and for learning...

Nothing :(

(...'cept I've permanently borrowed my brother's cheapo bass, and ditto with my neighbour's Mac)

Can't afford anything at the moment.

Wish list for St. Claus:

Fret job + new nut + internal piezo mic on my Fender accoustic
Fret job on my Fender Tele
New bone nut on my Epi dot + new tuners?
Half round strings
Cables
A truckload of jazz III picks
Volume pedal?

Hoping I've been good!

...only thing I know how to do is to keep on keepin' on...

I've already posted on what gear I'm getting. I really had my mind made up I didn't need it and the wife goes and orders it. (I had just bought her a lobster dinner )

I'm not getting anything this year :( I almost bought a Thunderbird bass for myself, but decided not to. I went to one of GC's sales and all I bought was Fender t-shirt for my son. Like dogbite, I'm trying to get my debt paid off, so I'm trying to hold off on buying anything new for the next 6 months at least. The crappy economy hasn't really had an effect on me, I still have the same job, make the same amount and haven't borrowed any money since I bought my car a year ago. But it still feels like I have less, I guess prices are just rising since the value of the dollar is dropping like a stone.

We spent a lot of money when we moved, which also took up a lot of playing time. I did buy a "cajon" drum box for those visiting percussionists who want to travel light.

Recording gear is still at the top of my list.

The Carvin Koa 5-sting fretless is still waiting for me to hit the lottery.

Well... *sigh* it looks like I've gotten all I'm going to get this year.

1. Jackson electric 6-string, amp and accompanying doo-dads.
2. Seagull Maritime Spruce Gloss 6 string acoustic.
3. Drummer's throne (but that's really back-health related ).

What do I want?

1. Everything in the guitar shop. :D
2. Seriously, another electric; an acoustic bass and/or electric bass w/amp. Now, I don't play bass. Heck I can hardly play 6 string! But there's no harm in broadening one's horizons, now is there?

It is difficult to answer when one does not understand the question.

Good thinking. :D The economy is surely in safe hands and will bounce back. A Minotaur led recovery for 2009...

The things I most need, and can't seem to buy, are more talent, more ability, more class....

But I might settle for a new audio interface to keep my inner child happy while I scratch up and down the fretboard searching for the skills..(" What do you mean - Inner child!" says my wife - "when did you ever bother to conceal it!"...)

Cheers,

Chris

This is going to be a Zen Xmas for me. Nothing is what I want. I'd like to keep my job. That would make me happy.

Same here cnev. People have been getting escorted out the door almost daily. The thing about my place is that the grapevine is usually 99% accurate. The word is: come January, they are going to let go of almost everyone and just keep enough people to keep the "lights on".

I've already spoke to my kids. Did not want bad news to hit them blindly. Its scary. Thousands out of work and very few jobs. Good luck to you bro!!

Amen to that, I' m just glad I'm in a union and in the contract we can't get laid off due to lack of work, and have enough seniority that we can lose another 7 or 8 people in my engineering dept (which would cripple us) before I'm on the "chopping block"

As far as gear goes, I'm getting a Classical Guitar - entry level, most likely yamaha, or Ibanez GA3, I don't know why I need 3 guitars, I don't play out.

My list of my gear is:

Washburn D-10SCE -- Acoustic Electric
Squire Bullet Stratocaster -- Electric
Yamaha E410 -- Keyboard (Don't know why I have it, don't have time to really learn )

In Space, no one can hear me sing!
