I'd really appreciate if some of you could listen to this recording I made of me singing Jonathan Coulton's song Ikea and give me some tips. I think I'm better than I used to be, but that doesn't mean much... I know the rhythm is off in a few places, but that's the least of my concerns.

Here's the original song first, so you know what I'm doing:

And my rendition. It's acappella since I didn't want the guitar to distract me.

I'd really appreciate any help you could give me.

Hey,
Baring in mind I'm not over keen on this guys voice ill try and be as constructive as I can. Your imitation is actually quite good, but it is apparent that its an imitation, not that theres anything wrong with that, but i would recommend trying to find your own voice aswell :).

There were some parts that were a little bit out of tune, for this i would recommend singing scales. If you play guitar or piano you can just try and harmonize with the notes of scales in them. The major and minor scales cover all the notes you'll need so do that before singing to tune your voice.

Also you sounded a little bit weak imo, maybe try making sure you have the correct support (diaphragmatic breathing I help finds me) and then you can really get into the song.

This is all only advice of course... really only you can know what you want out of your voice, so be make sure to record yourself as you sing and listen then adjust what you don't like :D.

But your doing a good job. So keep on singing :).

Nath
