So i've heard alot that you need to "find" a voice you like and imitate it.. like.. looking up to a professional singer and trying to copy his style if you like it. then eventually, they say your voice will branch off there voice and become your own if you keep practicing. BUT honestly i dont get how your supppose to imitate ones voice..do they mean prononuce the words like they do when they sing ?? or something else.? I'd reallly apprecaite the help. haha thank you

I think you should find your own voice.I think trying to sound like Bob Dylan or Tom Waits would sound silly  Just MHO.

OHh thank you. BUT my friend says that. you develop your OWN voice AFTER adaptaing to anothers voice you like.. basically, you keep practicing. for example. jason mraz's voice. then eventually if you practice enough your voice sounds a lil different and kinda branches off. and people can tell .. wow thats DAVIDS voice .instead of jason mraz's.

My personal preference would be to try to improve and use my own voice, it makes it much easier to sing and not have to remember to sound like someone else. Imagine how it would be if every artist imitated Willie Nelsons voice.

I dont know what your friends background is, but I know the vocal teacher said to find your own voice. You're given an anatomy fitted perfectly for your own style.. You weren't born with Jason Mraz throat, vocal chords, diaphram, etc. So, why would you need to sound like him first? Work on making your anatomy sound perfect for you. Thats my suggestion anyway.

Good luck to you!!

Jim

Edited: Wow that first line sounded upity. I didnt mean it that way. Just seriously dont know how much experience you friend has.
