hiya ...
i'v been singin for sum time now ...
when i ws a bit younger .. my voice was a bit thinner .. after about five yrs of smokin and ageing i guess .. it's got a bit heavier ... but how do i get that
edginess or roughness that's present in " clapton , knopfler , springsteen "
i think most will agree that it's a very common technique in rock and roll to add that very soothing roughness to ur vocals ..
i can do it .. but how do i do it like knopfler ...
i hate this guy :?
Personally, I think it comes down to not so much singing, as talking in tune. If you listen to Knoffler, can you really say he's ever singing in the true sense of the word?
Get a good quality mike. Get right up close to it (but use a pop guard) and try recording yourself talking in tune, but as low in tone as you can get. You might surprise yourself!
All the best dude
Matt
These guys you're referring to are probably double your age (at least).
Older adults have a warmth and timbre in their voice.
Have you considered lessons.. You'll learn more than you thought possible.
