This was asked in another thread, along with a broader question, and got lost. So, I'll ask it again:

Where are you folks located? I'm in far western Kentucky, and as far as I have been able to tell, I'm the only person here that is remotely interested in slide guitar.

If it ain't true, it ain't blues.

I'm in Bristol, Tennessee, which bills itself as "The Birthplace of Country Music." It's full of bluegrass, but not much blues. (Which is what I'm most interested in.) I know a couple of other guys who slide the blues, that's it.

There are some good Dobro players around here. I tend to forget about that, but it'd be cool if some of the bluegrass and country dobro sliders got on here and talked about what they do!

I'm in beautiful Bend, Oregon. I take guitar lessons but haven't found an instructor in slide. As long as omse one mentioned where they group up, I grew up in Manhattan, NYC and LI, NY but have lived in the following states: ME, OH, FL, NJ, MI, MA, AZ and finally beautiful OR.

I'm just outside of Philadelphia, Pa. We may claim to be the birthplace of liberty, but there's a pretty active blues scene here, too.

BTW - although there's an active blues enclave here, it's mostly electric. The guy I take lessons from has the Brozman DVD's and is only one step ahead of me

England...just outside of Liverpool. Blues has always been popular over here, especially since the "blues boom" of the mid sixties, and most british rock bands play a few blues numbers in their sets. Probaby most brits who like blues got into it through John Mayall, Clapton, Beck or Page....

I live in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, US; "The Great Spirit's Handprint".

I'm not all that big a deal on slide guitar, I just have fun with it, and enjoy tinkering with different techniques as a means to the end of playing the music I hear in my head. Sometimes that calls for doing things a bit differently! But I'm just a hack. But a toneful one... ! 8)

Smokin' Dog,
You lived in Paducah!!!!!

I'm eight miles east of Paducah, between Smithland and Ledbetter. Dang, I wish you were still around, I don't know anybody hereabouts that's into blues or slide of anykind. (Except the pedal steel country player, who hates blues).

It's a small world, but still sometimes out of synch.

If it ain't true, it ain't blues.

I missed you by 6 years :( I lived on HC mathis drive across from Noble Park. not alot of blues players in western Kentucky for some reason. Lou Getton the weather man on the local NBC channel had a blues band , I hear he can play a pretty good guitar ala SRV. I used to work at the minit mart in ledbetter back inthe early 90's when i was going to nursing school, we may have crossed paths at some point :D --the dog
