Some of the best slide work I have ever heard is Ry Cooder's playing on the Rolling Stones' track "Sister Morphine".
No matter how I try I can't figure out what he's using; there are some pretty crazy harmonies in there and maybe it's just staring me right in the face but I can't get them with the open G or E it seems.
Any suggestions?

And of course it would appear I can't watch that video from my region; does he actually go over a tuning?

bummer about youtube in your area. the video shows the guy playing in open A tuning. he shows you the licks. why don't you try to find something similar with the youtube of your country.
