A couple years ago I tried to take up slide, but I got frustrated (and busy) and gave up. I gave it another try and got a little further this time.

If you have a few minutes, please give a listen to Sleep Walk. http://www.reverbnation.com/imadirtytroll/ It's based on the Chantay's arrangement. (which is in Db?)

This is my level best effort. I've been playing slide for about 2-3 months, so it's got a few rough spots. Mostly what I'm looking for are the big ticket items, as in "what should I work on next?"

(The backing has a lot of mistakes too, please ignore - it's scratch.)

you cut off a lot of phrases early, lifting the slide where on the original they notes normally decay, and sometimes you don't come in at quite the right time. with such a well-known song, the little differences are pretty glaring.

OK that's good news. If the biggest issues are timing and legato - at least those are things I know how to work on. (basic musicianship)

BTW that's played with a slide. The notes are getting cut off not from lifting the slide but from damping too early. I guess for the listener that's a distinction without a difference. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree with jason. the notes are cut off making for a choppy and truncated feel. the notes should have a long decay. adding reverb is essential too for this tune. your intonation is very good. that is most of the battle. you have that won.
I like how you play behind the phrasing a bit. the original Santos and Johnny version has that. I play this in C6 tuning. I am troubled by my playing on the beat instead of just behind. a little behind creates a lingering, sleep walking feel.
