Hi MrEWorm,
Sounding good :D Well, you've got me guessing and I can't say I know for sure. My guess is the singer is an inanimate objects- maybe a cell phone?....answering machine?......microwave?......coffee maker?

Any other hints?

Thanks for sharing :D

OK, you deserve a hint. The singer is an inanimate object but apparently it is infatuated with someone. Here are the lyrics

I was waiting for your call I was waiting all night long again
When I'm alone I just sit there on the floor
But I knew the time of day that you would ring my bell again
I rush to your side and throw open the door

You seem distracted as you caress my buttons
You're just staring at the lights
Stand in the corner As though we're strangers
Where did you spend the night

I'll play music without words a melody that you've heard
Who knows how many times?
And while you sneer at my song I can hear you hum along
And crescendo as we harmonize

Soon you'll leave to be with your friends
You say your work is never done
You'll ask for a ride home then leave me on my own
While you're out there, having fun

I'll be back there on the floor all alone once more
Waiting for your morning call
You're out there on the town. Me, I'm mostly down
But you know I'll never fall.

I'll play music without words a melody that you've heard
Who knows how many times?
And while you sneer at my song I can hear you hum along
And crescendo as we harmonize

Another clue? Music might be spelled Muzak.
This song really needs an appropriate title.

The singer is an elevator or lift....that seems to fit the clues

Bingo! It is an elevator in an office building

Statistically, elevators spend a lot of time on the first floor. When someone pushes the button in a lobby it is to "call" the elevator.
Once in an elevator, you push the button for your floor. Most people don't talk much in elevators, they do watch the lights to see what floor it is getting to.
Elevator music usuaklly does not have vocals, frequently they have pretty bland melodies.
"I'll never fall" The only time I have ever heard of an elevator falling is in the movies.

More than having clues about what it was, the real story is that the elevator is infatuated with one of it's regular riders.

Well, was it the same subject? Did you also write about an elevator with unrequited love?

Uh, no. Since I guessed wrong, I couldn't make sense of some of your lyrics. Now it all fits.
