OK, this is a bit of a cheat....wrote this a couple of nights ago...but hell, it fits the assignment, and it is a new song....so here goes....

Goin' to Texas

Well I'm going out to Texas, I've made up my mind,
Going to have some Texas fun, leave England behind....

Well I got a little money from an unexpected source,
I need to do some travelling, and open some new doors,
Texas was reccommended, by a friend of mine,
Who went not long ago, and had a real good time,
"The people are so cool," she said,"so welcoming and warm,"
"I want to go back there again, wish that's where I'd been born...."

Well I'm going out to Texas, next February,
The warmth and the sunshine, appeal to me.....

February in England, ain't no place to be,
Cold and wet and windy, rain and snow and sleet,
They say in Texas, the sun shines every day,
Back home in England, sun don't shine til May,
So I want to go to Texas, where the sky is always blue,
Don't want to stay at home and end up with the 'flu.....

Well I'm going out to Texas, can't come too soon,
Don't want to stay at home, in a cold and lonely room....

Got my ass on a airplane, hey I'm on my way,
And if I'm lucky, might get there today,
Excuse me please stewardess, Can I get a drink,
Make it a strong one, don't want to think,
About the people I've left behind, who don't give a damn for me,
Just want to keep me chained in that same old misery....

Well I'm on my way to Texas, for some good ole Texas cheer,
At the moment I'm relaxing with a complimentary beer,

Got to call at Illinois, and pick up up Twisty-Ho,
Won't be the same without him, to really shake up Plano,
Well we're on our way to Texas, Vic and Pet and Twisty,
And Andrew best be waiting, Pet's already misty,
And Vic and Twisty need a drink, so have a cold one ready,
After so long in the air, bound to be unsteady.....

I don't know of a bigger change of scenery than Newton-le Willows in February....cold, wet, windy....as compared to Texas......

I'll write part II of this in March!!!!........

:) :) :)

Vic

(and a sidenote.....Bob'll like this one....I'll have a smile on my face for the rest of the week I'd have to suck 10 lemons to get rid of....Liverpool 2 Arsenal 1.....Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart...and you'll never walk alone.........)

Pint of Carlsberg to celebrate methinks!!!!

PS .....Think ZZ Top/George Thorogood for this one.....loud funky 12-bar blues....maybe even a litle slide.....

hey vic,

nice song. wow wanting to go to texas, hhhmmmmm........a hot, flat, humid, boring place. sounds great. the winters may not be that bad, and yes the sun does shine most of the year, but could you handle 95F or hotter all summer? maybe it would be a nice place to have a winter home. not a place i would want to live, maybe just a short visit.

well enough of that, on to your song. you really did a good job. there were two lines that stood out and bothered me
Cold and wet and windy, rain and snow and sleetthat line just sound off with all the ands in there.
Got my donkey on a airplane, hey I'm on my waya donkey? not sure i understand.

good job other wise. certainly not your everyday place for you. way to get out of the box and across an ocean. :D

Was inspired by the "Down South" thread on the seminar forum....I already had the names and places, just a case of fitting them in... funny you should say "piece itself together", it virtually was a case of everything falling into place all of its own accord....

It took about 20 mins during a lull in conversation....

You need to stop in Delaware and pick up the Destroyers on the way, George would probally lend them to you LOL. A nice tune, I can hear it played in a bar in Texas late at night with some slide guitar played with a beer bottle, maybe some sax too. 8) 8) My wife and I were just talking about going to England in 2006 for our 25th anniversary, always wanted to stay in a haunted castle  -the dog
