Hey gang,

If you haven't heard Vic's mp3 of "That old photograph" -- you really ought to. it's terrific. And going over to soundclick to download it, I ended up snooping around soundclick myself to see what it was about. Long story not as long as it could be.... I ended up putting some of my assignments up over there. Three songs that I did for SSG, Gringo Joe, Old Hickory, and Bat Boy, (which was orignally posted here as "Tabloid Rag". I don't know much about recording software, so the sound is kinda lousy, but over headphones it's OK. Over my laptop speakers though, it's barely audible.
Also, MarvelousOptimist did a *much* better version of Gringo Joe, which is posted a few pages deep on this very forum, but it didn't generate any response.
Be mindful that I write better than I either sing or play, but even so, I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Thanks gang,

Well I for one am glad you posted those songs....and like you said about mine, not quite what I expected....

Nothing wrong with your voice, reminds me a little of Burl Ives...not much wrong with guitar playing either, it does the job....

And the songs are great, so much better listening to them than just reading lyrics....

Very American , very folk music....I love Hickory pole!....you have just the right blend of nostalgia and whimsy.....

:D :D :D :D :D

The thing I like about soundclick....you can listen to the song and read the lyrics at the same time....

Anyway Scratch, Nice work....look forward to hearing more....now where'd I put that guitar?

Vic

hey scratch,

very proud of you for posting song. even though you don't think you sing or play well. i think you big a fabulous job. if only you could record it with better quality. i think your voice lends itself nicely to the words and melodies that you write. i even (get ready for this) think i like your voice better on the song gringo joe. no bias there. bat boy was my favorite one. maybe it was the fact that it was faster, more light harted, over all funner tune. i think the accent in your voice goes just great with the lyrics. i am glad that you got around to recording a few of your songs. i really enjoyed hearing them. only makes me like them more. :D but i am gushing now, i am sure that you don't mind at all.

great job again. keep up the good work, and hope to hear more work of yours in the future. at least a few of your songs now have been brought to life for the rest of us to be able to hear. unlike what will ever happen to my stuff. :( if i even write anymore finished works.

now an even bigger fan of yours.

OK gang,

Many thanks to bluenightangel, who told me how to use audacity to make the songs audible. So now the songs posted at the link above can be heard with regular ol' speakers. (thanks bna!)
So now you can hear the stuff without headphones. It's a bit static-y, but not too terrible.

you're welcome:)

there's also an effect that removes the static-y stuff(dunno how it's called as I have the German version of audiacity) but it doesn't work well at my songs. well you could still try it if ya like.
anyways the static-y thing is not so bad.

take care

I tried the noise reduction option, and it wiped out the whole song! rather humbling, I thought.

Thanks, dog. I listened to about 3 of yours while I was there. Loved Hummer. Very bluesy, and sets up a clever diametric. (Hummer == symbol of extravagant affluence / Blues == down & out) Nice. And thanks for listening to mine. I'll work on the recording gear, but it's gonna take me a while.
