Not sure this completely fits the assignment - it started off that way, but I got a little sidetracked from the original idea and this now seems more like a companion piece to "Screw The Neighbours" and "Noise Annoys".....
EDIT - just added the MP3 in the usual place - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageartist.cfm?bandID=225059
Rock'n'Roll Radio
When I was a kid the DJ's played,
Rock'n'roll music all day,
Get out of school, run all the way home,
Just to listen to the radio,
Those days are gone, and so has the fun,
Now all I hear is bass'n'drums,
That does absolutely nothing for me,
Where's the guitars and the melody?
They're saying rock'n'roll is dead,
And it's only alive, in my head,
Well excuse me, but I didn't see,
Nothing in the Times obituaries,
They're saying rock'n'roll has gone,
And music's changed and it's time to move on,
But they're still playing rock'n'roll,
If you look hard enough on the radio....
There are still stations on that dial,
That make me tap my feet and smile,
In a world of musical mediocrity,
Rock'n'roll still does it for me...
There are stations out there on the internet,
That are playing rock'n'roll yet,
These days we may be a minority choice,
But rock'n'roll always had the loudest voice...
They're saying rock'n'roll is dead,
And it's only alive, in my head,
Well excuse me, but I didn't see,
Nothing in the Times obituaries,
They're saying rock'n'roll has gone,
And music's changed and it's time to move on,
But they're still playing rock'n'roll,
If you look hard enough on the radio....
They'll never stop rock'n'roll,
No matter how hard they try,
They tried before, by now they should know,
Rock'n'roll will never die!
Rock'n'roll will never die!
Rock'n'roll will never die!
Rock'n'roll will never die!

Not one of my lines - there you go, you've got half a verse.....get on with it!

Hi Vic,
Love the song mate. And who cares if it's on a common theme? I think this song stands well enough on it's own and has a lot of feeling.
I think it's great. 8)
From little things big things grow - Paul Kelly
Vic
I like the sentiment. My first attempt at this was
titled Whatever Happened To Rock and Roll Radio.
So I know where you are coming from. One thing I
was thinking even before this assignment came up
was how "listening to mp3s" doesn't have the same
lyrical impact as "listening to the radio"
There are still some gems out there though.
If I drive about 30 miles south I can pick a very
progressive station that plays anything from
Bluegrass to Zappa.
This song is Rock and Roll in true Vic Lewis style
Good Job
John
I honestly second everything said:)
also loved the bit bushpig quoted
very well done, mate

"oh, eventually it will break your heart" - anders wendin

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
Hey mate
Just listened to "Screw the neighbours"
very Status Quo-ish ( is that a word ?) I can see this in a very simular vain ...
No doubt you have neighbour issues happening ...
It's good to get things off your chest ..
Not 100% sure on this mate
They're saying rock'n'roll is dead,
And it's only alive, in my head, <-- maybe Is it only alive , in my head
Love to hear it mate
Keep posting

Aghhhh
Not only am I a senior citizen
I'm now a bloody senior member
Are you people trying to tell me I'm old or what ?
over 700 posts ( I really do need to get out more )
LK - The reason I used that phrase ...... I was trying to get the point across that everyone's telling me that rock and roll is dead, and the only place it's still alive is in my head.....at least in my little town (Sniff!")
Anyway the MP3's in the usual place - just a first bash at it, anyway, I need to tidy the bassline up a little and maybe add a second guitar....this'll do till I get a few mins later in the week....

Good MP3 Vic,
It sounds alot like Ray Davies to me.
John
Good song Vic - I enjoyed it.
Where I live though, there are 4 classic rock stations, 2 hard rock stations, 1 soft rock station, a college station that plays a variety with some rock, and then the rest is crap.
Still, thats a lot of options. Only time the blues hit the waves is for like an hour on monday on the college channel. Thats depressing.
Who needs a signature?
I mean really...
It's almost always lyrics...
or a cliche...
or garbage about me...
Lets just save YOU from the pain, ok?
Hey Vic,
Love the music, and even I can appreciate the sentiment. I listen to oldies stations or old CD's way more than the contemporary stuff. There were a couple of lines that didn't seem to flow on the read. I thought it was probably just me, but they sounded a little crammed in with the music too. Just little stuff that can be fixed easily, ie:
Well excuse me, but I didn't see,
Nothing in the Times obituaries,
I think this was one of them. Maybe just leave off Times Don't think you really need it, and the line might roll off your tongue more easily. Just a suggestion. Bet this would sound great live with a full band. Enjoyed it. Thanks.
Joe
Thanks Joe - not sure where you're from, but there's a saying in Britain - "if your obituary isn't in the Times, either you're not dead or you never lived...."
