Rio Grande Lady (Larry W. Jones 02/11/2007) (song#4418)
An adobe covered in whitewash by the border line
A garden of cactus and hills of ponderosa pine
There I wandered where purple sage and avocado grow
Down a hot and dusty Juarez road
Old wooden wheels warped by the Mexican sun
Cracked adobe walls where lizards playfully run
I sit on the porch and wonder how it all began
I guess I came down here to be a maverick man
I pick my guitar strings and watch the sun go down
I could ride away but I think I'll stay in Juarez town
Rio Grande lady, sing a lovers song for me
Rio Grande lady, with you forever I will be (revised from "forever I long to be") thanks Vic Lewis
Candle lights glow on Spanish guitars at night
Bare footed children dance in the moonlight bright
Here Coronado came to conquer and stay a spell
Here my heart was conquered, that I know so well
Time moves on but my movin' on is done
Unsaddle my pony and let him loose to run
Rio Grande lady, sing a lovers song for me
Rio Grande lady, with you forever I will be (same revision as above)

Well - obviously it's a country song......
I found this nice and easy to put a rhythm to, thinking verse - verse - chorus(1) - bridge - chorus(2)....
Lovely imagery in the two verses and the bridge....like the Isley Bros captured that summer feeling in Summer Breeze, you could almost smell the Jasmine - I can almost smell the sage and avocado, and see cracked abobe walls - and you mentioned ponderosa, and I'm a sucker for anything Bonanza-related - I loved that series......
the only line I stumbled over was this - "with you forever I long to be" - seems a little forced, by which I mean it's not a line you'd say in real life....maybe something like "with you I'll always be"....still a little forced, but slightly more optimistic than yearning.....
Very nice, I like this one......
And seeing as you've written over 4,000 songs - my mind boggles at that kind of output - I have to ask, have you recorded any? Has anyone else recorded them? If so, where can we hear demos?
Keep writing - (yeah like anything's going to stop him now....)
:D :D :D

Hi Vic. Since I've been busy just writing lyrics, I haven't promoted the music and recording much. (I don't write music and I surely can't sing). Richard Hefner of ezfolk.com created ukulele music and singing for my first song, "Under Honolulu Moon". Here's the MP3 of that one. http://ezfolk.com/audio/play.php?mode=song_hifi&band_id=2&song_id=4698
I have contacts in Austin and Nashville who have shown interest in some of my Country/Cowboy/Western lyrics. My employer, Continental Airlines, will include coverage of my volumes in a section, in the "Continental Quarterly", on employees who have published books. That should give more exposure.
I've had a couple demos done at recording studios, but no results since I didn't have the time, funds, nor contacts to advertise them properly.
Bobbie Oliver, blues singer.
Thanks for your encouragement, and I'll revisit that line you mentioned. I appreciate the critique.
regards, LWJ

Here'a a little Bio:
Eva Oliver interacts with her husband, blues musician Bobby Oliver, and sings along as he plays outside the Weisman Center in downtown Marshall during Second Saturday in this March 2006 file photo. Oliver was recently recognized among more than 40 other artists at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn., for having the best self-produced blues CD.

Welcome to the group !!!!!
I like the laid back feel to the song and agree with Vic on that one line , not overly natural............unless you are Irish of course and then we do word things a bit odd here and there :D
Time moves on but my movin' on is done
Unsaddle my pony and let him loose to run
Rio Grande lady, sing a lovers song for me
Rio Grande lady, you, are where i wanna be
how does that sound to you ?????
Just a suggestion.
Go well

Thanks jamir. That would be a great revision also, but I've already taken Vic's idea
and revised it to "with you forever I will be". It's a positive finale to his "conquered heart".
