Well,

Great topic! And if there's any subject meant for a man to write about, this well may be it.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun doing this one. I guess KISS comes to me easily . . . .

MAN OF ACTION

When things get broken and I don't know how to fix it
I do all that I can, which means what I do is, kicks it
it's the best that I can do, I'm not mechanically inclined, it's true

and when I'm in trouble and I need to find a way out
I don't bother to look for answers, what I do is shout
it's the best that I can do, I don't bother to think it through

I'm a man of action and when I'm put to the test
I'm a man of action and I do what I do best
if it's complicated and I don't understand
I work my way around it, it's the kind of guy I am

and when I'm driving and I get lost
I continue to go forward at any cost
it's the best that I can do, I'm a man through and through

if I did things by the numbers there's nothing I couldn't surmount
but I left school early, didn't learn how to count
so I do the best I can do, I'm not a scholar like you

now there's a moral to this story, keep it simple stupid
and it definitely means staying away from cupid
falling in love is way too complicated
and I've learned by experience it also overrated

so when she's in love and she asks me for a kiss
I do what men do and I throw a kissy fit
it's the best that I can do, even if it means missing you

and when I'm deep in mud and need to get out
I just leave my boots there, did you have any doubt
it's the best that I can do, what would you do

I'm a man of action and when I'm put to the test
I'm a man of action and I do what I do best
if it's complicated and I don't understand
I work my way around it, it's the kind of guy I am

yes I'm a man of action so stay out of my way
what should I do, what did you say
I don't care if you think you know what your doing
I'm doing it my way and that's the proof of the pudding

yes I'm a man of action and I don't care if I'm wrong
sooner or later they'll write about me in song
yes I'm a man of action, good bye my friends
I don't know what else to say so this is the end

So, basically, if all else fails, read the directions? Nice job. You seemed to have covered all of the male stereotypes here. don't read the manual, don't ask for directions, don't fall in love. Nice twist on the subject.

Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.

Now this was a pleasant surprise. Not even sure why, but when the second verse came down on the headphones I was going "whoa! Is this Neil?"

It's funny, it moves and it's very catchy.

Two things - both in this verse:
if I did things by the numbers there's nothing I couldn't surmount
but I left school early, didn't learn how to count
so I do the best I can do, I'm not a scholar like you

First line is a real tongue twister and I'm not sure "surmount" is a word that someone who left school early would even know... But I love the second line and the way it ties into doing things "by the numbers" so I'm trying like crazy to come up with something that will work.

Also, is it "kissy fit" or "hissy fit?" I seriously don't know. For some reason, my sister always says "hissy fit."

I'm sounding more and more like the narrator of the song with each statement...

Truly enjoyed this, Neil, and I'm looking forward to more.

Peace

Thanks all for the comments.

David, I guess you're right about the word "surmount" . . . . . but I could have been good in english before I dropped out . . . .

And yes, hissy fit is the norm but I couldn't resist using kissy under the circumstances.

Thanks again.

Neil

I think "kissy" is fine. I like it a lot. I simply didn't know which one it was! Thanks for clueing me in on that, 'cause now I like it even better than before.

Peace

Hi Neil!

The "kissy fit" line stuck out to me too but that's because I really liked it! I thought it was very witty.
if I did things by the numbers there's nothing I couldn't surmount

I thought this line just might be too long? How 'bout "Doing things by numbers there's nothing I couldn't surmount" Maybe?

Good job with the assignment, Gwynne.

I loved "kissy fit" too. Very witty :D

Reminded me of the woman next door who does the dreaded routine with the proffered cheek, and you're supposed to go "Darlink!" and give her a hug and a peck..... aaaarghhh. Being a more selective hugger I always try and disguise my 'kissy fits' by sliding off behind the furniture or similar lame tactic....

And you nailed us all nicely with all your other examples too. The bar seems to have been set high this week.

Cheers,

Chris

Well up to the usual standard, Neil!

I had a problem with the "surmount" line too, but there's a couple of good suggestions, so doubtless it'll be resolved. The only thing I'm not sure about is the placement of this verse....

and when I'm deep in mud and need to get out
I just leave my boots there, did you have any doubt
it's the best that I can do, what would you do

It doesn't seem to follow on naturally from the "kissy fit" and cupid sections, although it sounds more natural than it reads after listening to the MP3. I was going to suggest something along the lines of,

"And when I'm deep in the mire and I need to get out,
I'll leave my boots behind and just slide on out,
I'll take the easy path, did you have any doubt?"

Anyway, well done, yet again.....

:D :D :D

My sentiments exactly! We're use to your mellow voice and you get down right
bluesy on this one. 8)
