Alright -
Another old song of mine.... from, what.... 4 years ago????

This is a one take, solo acoustic demo.
My strings are so tight and dead.... and I 'm missing the B string too
It kinda falls apart in the end, and I darn near start laughing!

This is how I've always played it, but I'd like ta do the 'fingerings' with a slide instead.
If you can picture it with a real loose slide.... like: Non-Damped.... extraneous string noise kinda thing :P

Anyway, this is me.... one step closer to actual singing  LOL!

This song is so old, the lyrics aren't even in my pc!
So, I think this is what they are

APORIA

While you're; hot as the sun
your heart is; cold as the moon
in this picture on the wall
who's that stranger next to you

[CHORUS]
Who
took my place
Who is this stranger in the picture on our wall
Who
took my place
Who is this stranger in the picture on our wall

What will we; tell the kids
what will we; tell my ma
instead of makin' supper
you went out and had a ball

[CHORUS]

How will we; tell our friends
that our marriage is a loss
hold on here just a minute
this stanger looks: JUST LIKE YOUR BOSS

[CHORUS]

Who
took my place

is he the stranger
in our bedroom
down the hall

Interesting, I kind of like the minimalist feeling from the music that I get, fits the lyrics.

The audio is popping alot though.

An interesting song on a ruined marriage
How will we; tell our friends
that our marriage is a loss
hold on here just a minute
this stanger looks: JUST LIKE YOUR BOSS

Dont' really hear about the fact that you have mutual friends that you have to tell. And the "Just like your boss" is a nice touch, especially the way you accentuated it.

Nice, you should sing again! :D

don't know if this was intentional, but I liked the echo-y nature. try to keep that.

Interesting. The double tracked vocals are great, I like the minimalist accompaniment (as noted earlier)....I think you've got a real keeper here.

The sound quality's poor - but hey, I got used to filtering out the whistles when I listened to Radio Luxembourg back in the early 70's - and I got to be able to recognise a good song inbetween all the whistles and staic and white noise etc.

Seriously, this is looking AND sounding like a goodie....just needs recording properly.

As for the lyrical content...first thing I had to do was look up what the title meant. I was thinking it might have been the opposite of euphoria - but it's a little more complex than that. I had to wade through a bunch of philosophical raison d'etres to get there....me, I'm a simple bloke, but read a lot of books.....I think you've read a lot more than me, though!

So, my young philosopher/ hippy / beat poet ....consider this job ALMOST done. I'd love to hear a crystal clear recording, that's all.....

:D :D :D

Sounds like mountain music to me. I like it, except for the occasional bits of digital distortion. I couldn't really understand the lyrics in your perfomance.

Who's the guy in the painting on your soundclick site? A relative maybe?

The sound quality's poor

I actually think that it adds to the atmosphere of the song.

Wow!
Thankx for all the wonderful responses :D
I can't remember ever being so well received before

Where to start -

The echo-y/double tracked vocals - It was just a single take on one track with both guitar and vocal (using my vid-cam for a mic; which explains the poor vocal quality).... hearing that as just a single mono track just didn't do it for me,
so I dup'ed the track, made it stereo left (because I really can't hear much out of my right ear - I always end up weighting the sound to the left when I mix/produce), then I moved that track a tiny bit so that it was a split second ahead of the original mono track.
That gives it a fuller sound with a bit of a reverb feel.

Thankx for the 'phin' links, James.
An 'interesting' instrument, to be sure 8)

Vic, Bro.... You crack me up! :D
Glad you liked it.
Aporia - yeah.... another could be developed along the deeper philosophical lines there.

Mountain music - yeah, that was sorta the feel I was going for; or at least how I heard it.
I was a bit disapointed with the singing myself - as the song would really come alive with a strong vocal delivery.
When I heard all the soft/slurring of this one, I thought: Well, if it's good enough for Mick Jagger and the Stones

That's not really a painting, it's a 'Daguerreotype'.... which is an early form of photography, popular in the 1800's.
They have a haunting look to them.... I always thought they were pretty cool.
He's not anybody that I know; just found him on the net.... though, after you mentioned it - we do have a similar facial structure and build :P
I chose that as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the 'picture on the wall' in the song.... the guy who stole the girl.
Obviously a dandy

The comments on the poor sound quality reminded me of the first time I heard Billie Holiday on CD.
It just didn't sound right to me :?
I finally figured that it was cos she wasn't on a scratchy 78 playing on a handwound Victrola! LOL!

Gives me the idea to try and make the re-make sound like an old 78 type thing.

Anyway - Thankx again everyone :D

That sounds like a good idea. It has that early blues sound to me
that is perfect for that scratchy effect.

Cool Vibe
