SSG10-Week7 Charing Cross Road

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11305266

I swore it was you dressed in blue where'd you run off to
I lost you in a crowd I know when but don't know how
You please me; you tease me
Amuse me and confuse me
All I know is I'll spot you on Charing Cross Road

I've been up and down Charing Cross Road
Had a good look found some second hand books
Found some rare tunes I've been listening to
But there's no magic here without you
I'll be waiting for you on Charing Cross Road

What could be worse than this curse of a thirst
With nothing to prevent it and no way to quench it
You spell me; compel me
See through me and undo me
I'm trying to tell I love you on Charing Cross Road

I've been up and down Charing Cross Road
If I misspoke came off like a joke
Let me reassure you my words are true
With everything to gain; nothing to lose
I'll be waiting for you on Charing Cross Road

I've been up and down Charing Cross Road
Can't break this spell; it's Heaven, it's Hell
My heart's bewitched, bedazzled and bamboozled to boot
But there's no magic here without you
What's a muggle like me to do?
Until I know I'll be wandering Charing Cross Road
Until I know I'll be wandering Charing Cross Road
Until I know I'll be wandering Charing Cross Road

I'm glad you put in the bit about the muggle. Up until that point I had no idea it was about Harry Potter characters. I have no idea which book or scene you were referring to but I'll ask the Sorting Hat later.

Merry Christmas

Hi MrEWorm,
I'm glad you put in the bit about the muggle. Up until that point I had no idea it was about Harry Potter characters.
Good on you  I figured it would need a few crumbs on the trail....if it wasn't for JK Rowling, Charing Cross Road would just be famous for second hand books and music stores .....but that could have been fine as well
I have no idea which book or scene you were referring to but I'll ask the Sorting Hat later.

It's not that specific. It's more about a guy who falls in love with a witch, but since he is a muggle, he knows nothing about the Leaky Cauldron or Diagon Alley
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/atlas/britain/atlas-b-diagon.html
......He only sees his love interest mysteriously appear and disappear around Charing Cross Road, so he hangs out there hoping to start a relationship....not knowing she is a witch....Maybe a bit like the TV show Bewitched.

Merry Christmas!

James, very imaginative and nice double meanings.

I too had no idea what it was about until I got to the muggle part.

Hi Renee,

Thanks for the listen and post :D ...so it looks like the word "muggle" was the key link to the wizard world in this song

Merry Christmas!

i like!
I'm trying to tell I love you on Charing Cross Road
that's a great line by itself, but brilliant with the context you put it in :D

to me, "muggle" (though i have read and still admire the whole harry potter heptalogy) sounds like it could also mean something like a befuddled person - in that case, the singee wouldn't necessarily need to be a witch. so, for me, your song balances on the line of magic realism and i am very fond of magic realism.
this probably was very random rambling here, and all just to say "well done"

cheers,
straycat.

Hi Straycat,

I read this but forgot to respond.
"muggle"
I agree with you on the word. I think it shows good word choice by JK Rowling.

Thanks for the listen and post.

James
