Road to Home
© Copyright 2013 Paul Brady

This is the road that leads to my place
The one I follow to get home
The place I go when I need to find myself
When I need to be alone

This is the road that leads to your place
If I turn myself around
And take a step in your direction
that’s the path to higher ground

They say all roads lead to Rome
whatever choice that you make
But that’s the road that leads to nowhere
That’s the road that I'll not take

I’ll take the road that leads to somewhere
The road of new possibilities
And leave behind on this beaten track I’m on
Old shoes, old clothes and old keys

This song now has music ( David there's a diminished 7th chord included :D ).
I’ve uploaded an mp3 to soundclick here. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12150623
What’s interesting about this recording is that it's the first one I’ve done in over a year and even more exciting is that I’ve used my new Cajon that I just built recently, this one:

Its a cheap way of getting a drum kit and is not hard to build , in fact I’ve posted a video on youtube detailing how to do it.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

Good start :D
And take a step in your direction
that’s the path to higher ground
I like this line a lot.

Suggestion: Consider using "This" and "That" to differentiate the roads.

THAT is the road that leads to my place
The one I followED to get home
The place I WENT when I needED to find myself.......This sounds like a positive thing; make it negative as a reason to leave it behind..............The place I go when I needed to HIDE myself.
When I need to be alone...........BUT IT LEFT ME SO ALONE

This is the road that leads to your place
If I turn myself around :? you are on the road to her place if you turn around then you are going away from her place in "in your direction"

it should be.............
THAT is the road that leads to my place
If I turn myself around
And take a step in your direction
that’s the path to higher ground

They say all roads lead to Rome
whatever choice that you make
But that’s the road that leads to nowhere
That’s the road that I'll not take

I’ll take THIS road that leads to somewhere/SOMEONE.....or that leads me to you
The road of new possibilities
And leave behind on THAT beaten track I WAS on
Old shoes, old clothes and old keys

I look forward to the listen.

James

Hi James,

thanks for the comments.
Suggestion: Consider using "This" and "That" to differentiate the roads.
My intention here is that there is only one road and depending which way he's looking, its either leads home or to her place.
The "Turn myself around" line operates on 2 levels 1) the physical direction and 2) his state of mind. Without giving it all away the song isn't necessarily a happy one. After all I had to write it in a minor key  .

cheers
Paul

Maybe clarify it like that......There's a road that lies/goes/runs between your and mine.

or This same road leads to your place; if I turn myself around

I really like your groove and accompaniment; the drum box sounds good. I would have thought it was a set if I you hadn't said.
