SSG11-Week18 When I was a Verb (The tale of the Gerund)

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12201320

When I was a verb, I was the main attraction
I could make a subject move Mr. Action Action
I was singing and dancing and playing around
When I was a verb; an I-N-G verb

When I was a verb, I had a helping word
She dressed in many forms of the “to be” verb
Am, is, are, was, were
Am, is, are, was, were
Maybe you’ve heard of her; the “to be” verb
We were singing
We were dancing
We were laughing and romancing
When I was a verb; an I-N-G verb

Until one day I thought I’d be better on my own
I wanted to be the star of a one man show
So I left my helping verb but little did know
I became a noun when I was alone
An I-N-G verb without a “to be” verb becomes a noun
Like a horse’s tail or a circus clown

Now they call me a gerund; and laugh when I’m around
I’m the I-N-G verb turned into a noun
Like Crying is easy when you’re feeling down
Like Singing is easy with your friends around

So when you see me alone without a “to be” verb
I’m a gerund, a gerund; it’s an ugly word
But I remember dancing with my helping word
My life was full of action
When I was a verb

I have not figured out a topic to write on for this week

......I don't know if you saw this reply I posted to you, or if you saw it and it wasn't helpful......

I'm just starting to get some time to think about it. Once I lose a Sunday, the week fills up pretty fast. :?
Anyway here is some brainstorming:
Assignment -changes past/present
caterpillar/butterfly
tadpole/frog
atheist/Christian (CS Lewis)
Christian/atheist
gender operations- man/woman woman/man
robot/man (bicentennial man)
man/robot (Robocop)
small town/big town big town/empty town
twin towers/ground zero
prince/ranger (Aragorn)
young man/old man
married/divorced
living/dead (ghost story)
hunter/hunted
.......my plan will be an experiment to mix 3 song writing assignments into 1- The story of a Verb becoming a Gerund
Ughh a gerund, nasty little things
Thanks John, Paul and Neil for the listens and posts :D

James, thanks for the suggestions. Just got bogged down with a bunch of other projects. I may never get to this weeks project. Maybe I'll combine it with a future weeks project.

Clever lyrics James. :)

Reminds me of my schooldays and the Molesworth books illustrated with cartoons by Ronald Searle. See link below.
