I'm gonna pull this one out of the archives and see what I can do with it. Any thoughts or comments are welcome.
Walkin' Man
-----------------
Walked on down to Mickey's bar and grill
Pull up my stool, drinkin' beer after beer
I sit and drink until I get my fill
I'm drownin' my sorrows tear after tear.
Walked on down Main to the five and dime
got me a calendar shows me the date
got me a watch, what a waste of time
all it ever tells me is, it's too late
Chorus:
I'm a walkin' man, I'm a man just like you
Lost my reason on the road, got nothin' to do
I'm a walkin' man, tryin' to walk on home
I'm a walkin' lost and I'm walkin alone
Walked on down to Smitty's liquor store
Chuck at the register he knows my name
I can't be drunk because I need some more
I buy cheap bourbon 'cause it's all the same
Walked on down into the park to sit
watch the moms watch the kids go running by
I put up my feet to rest them a bit
Mom, she's watching me, corner of her eye
Chorus:
I'm a walkin' man, I'm a man just like you
Lost my reason on the road, got nothin' to do
I'm a walkin' man, tryin' to walk on home
I'm a walkin' lost and I'm walkin' alone
Walked on down that night on south ninety five
past underpass condos of rags and bones
headlights and diesel move like they're alive
walkin' 'cross the water, walkin' on home

and I'm thinking of blurring it together with this one:
Coffin nail and tequila
---------------------------
Lean on the bar with my coffin nail and tequila
And salt and a lime and a beer
Standing alone next to others
Who are standing alone next to me
Got a picture in my wallet I don't look at anymore
With a house and a wife and a kid
Smiling there next to each other
She's smiling to hide it from me
Chorus:
It's always rose colored through bloodshot eyes
I stopped looking some years ago
It all blurs together in the nicotine fog
but blind drunk I'd still see through you
She knocks down martinis like it's personal
Orders two, a drink and a spare
Strikes a match, light frames her face
When she makes this pickup she'll split
Bridge:
Here in my world of hazy recollection
Here there's no pleasure, no pain
One more hangover in my collection
one drink closer to done
She don't want to talk, I don't want to listen
her skin tanned neon light white
she says "it's just you and me now, hon"
I'm too drunk, just not drunk enough
Chorus:
It's always rose colored through bloodshot eyes
I stopped looking some years ago
It all blurs together in the nicotine fog
but blind drunk I'd still see through you
Wake up in the morning in a parking lot bed
Peel my head from my cold gravel pillow
I could complain but there's no one to hear
just me and the coffin nail and tequila

"got me a watch, what a waste of time
all it ever tells me is, it's too late "
that's a hot line, just wanted to say that it stuck out to me. i try my best to think of abstract creative lines like mayer does. maybe ill post a song or two soon. keep up the good work, id like to hear the music that goes with those songs.
"got me a watch, what a waste of time
all it ever tells me is, it's too late "
Thats probably that line,
by which you can remember the whole song, and i guess, when Nick wrote it, didn't actually thought about all the simbolic meanings that just the word "time" brings.
And thats the best part of it - it shows, how one can write a good song from his heart, you know, he just put that down without any thinking, and thats how it should be done!
God is a concept, by which we measure our pain - J.L.
I can picture that stuff as country, or maybe a BNL feel to it. Id love to hear something like that on the radio.
