Well you've gotta have fun with this stuff don't you. I think this topic was a howlin for “old dog” song so here it is.
In the light of Chris's comment last time there also aint no,
"Woke up this mornin'..... . either, well, not in as many words anyway.

Ive also no doubt some of these lines (if not all) have been used before.
But hey, I bet they dont sing it like me LOL.

Old Dog Blues

Well its late in the evenin
Don't know where my baby's gone
Its late in the evenin
Wish she'd call me on the telephone
Cos I need that lovin
This old dog needs his bone

You know I love you baby
Aint never done you no wrong
You know I love you baby
Why you stayin out for so long
Cos I miss you baby
This dogs a howlin all alone

Come back to me baby
Let your poor dog off the lead
Come back to me baby
Give your poor dog what he needs
Cos if you stay away from me baby
This dogs heart is gonna bleed

Well its late in the evenin
Don't know where my baby's gone
Its late in the evenin
Wish she'd call me on the telephone
Cos I need that lovin
And this old dog needs his bone

I'm sick of "I hate this that and the other" "Die, die, die" and all that rubbish. :x

But this??? This I like! :D

Yas.

.....Afterthought........

I'm NOT suggesting that anything you ever did was rubbish!

Nono.

I say and write what I'm thinking, then wish I hadnt.
My only redeeming feature is that I'm honest.

Ha ha! Great song. :D

As you say, very much in a traditional mould, and very singable.

I think that there's a big market for reworking of familiar themes and styles and it would not surprise me in the slightest to find this song on an album of country style blues.

Work on it... sell it!!

Pbee

No need to worry about reusing Blues lines.

As B.B.King said

"I don't think anybody steals anything; all of us borrow."

Good solid Blues

If I were to change anything it would be the last line of the first and last verses.

To me it's screaming for something more like:

"This old hound dog needs his bone"

Or is that too cliche :?:

SNAP!!, the first draft was this:
"This old dog needs his bone" I went with this
Cos I need that lovin
This old dog needs a little bone
cos I wanted to imply that the bone was a metaphore for love. I was afraid that the other way the bone might be misconstrued as his lover (then Id be in real trouble from especially from my wife).

but I agree with you thanks for the confirmation.

hey pbee

This is my kind of music just for fun I played A -D-E opens then just did a little walk along the fret board for the riff ( blue scale jazzed up a bit )

hope you don t mind , but I liked this alot , most my songs are either
A-D-E or G-C-D , basic chords hands are getting old to do the trickey chords , actually can not remember the last time I did a power chord , strange that.

But anyways I enjoyed myself playing your song you are becoming a very good song writter in my opion .

I like this. it's a classic blues them - there aren't that many, but they're all of 'em susceptible to a multitude of treatments. Just one thing, and it's a real minor one - I reckon the negatives are just a tad overdone in the second line of verse 2 Like I say, minor as hell, this is really nice.

Thanks guys,

After much deliberation (as long as it took me to read Celts reply) these line's are off to the pound
This old dog needs a little bone
And this old dog needs a little bone
And these puppies are back
This old dog needs his bone
And this old dog needs his bone
Thanks Celt.
