Hey all,

This song began with a previous assignment about creating a 12 bar blues song, but the lyrics never came. I'm not sure I like the "pop" bridge in the blues song, but I don't have the chops to do a solo, so that's what you get for now. :)

Cuckoo
©Robert Gowland 2008

I'd rather be falling with you
Than be falling asleep
I'd rather be falling with you
Than be falling asleep
I'd rather be cuckoo with you
Than be safe between my sheets

I'd rather be spinning with you
Than to keep both hands on the wheel
I'd rather be spinning with you
Than to keep both hands on the wheel
I'd rather be cuckoo with you
And let them tires squeal

Na na na
Hey hey hey
(x2)

I'd rather be crazy with you
Than to keep a high IQ
I'd rather be crazy with you
Than to keep a high IQ
I'd rather be cuckoo with you
B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-boo

I like

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Love that last line, reminds me of Cab Calloway singing "Minnie The Moocher" in the Blues Brothers film.

Song's well recorded - guitar's nicely understated, vocals are fine - there's only one slight reservation I have, and that's pretty trivial, really.

"I'd rather be crazy with you
Than to keep a high IQ"

Being "crazy" doesn't necessarily mean a low IQ - ever heard of Autism? But that's nitpicking a little - or playing Devil's Advocate. Maybe something like,

"I'd rather be crazy with you,
than live up to my IQ"

Sort of suggesting that it's no fun being clever all the time - sometimes you just have to let go and PAAAAAARTY!

I like it, though, Rob - and that last line cracks me up, every time!

:D :D :D

As a blues fan I don't find the "pop" bridge out of place at all.
The ending reminds me of Howling Wolf or "Screaming" Jay Hawkins

Thanks all for the feedback.

Ken:
Thanks. I'm pleased you're pleased.

Vic:
Yeah, I wasn't super happy with the IQ line either. I'll have to spend some time on it.

The last line was a bid of an afterthought when I was struggling for a 3rd verse, but as soon I as it came to mind I knew that's where I had to go. Glad it gets your giggling pin.

John:
Glad the bridge worked.

Maybe I'll be "Babbling" Bobby Gowland. :)
