Hey all,

I too picked the Straycat/Celt "Laura sang about you, the other day, on the radio" as my starting place. Not completely happy with it, especially the bridge, but here goes.

Sad Song
©2008 Robert Gowland

Laura sang a song about you, the other day, on the radio
You left her sad and ocean blue, the other day, on the radio
How could you tell her those lies (Sad song, same song, sad song)
Make believe, leave, no goodbye (Sad song, same song, sad song)

What you call a love song
What you call a love song
What you call a love song
Is farthest from

Sarah called the late night show, the other night on the radio
Telling how you left her cold, the other night on the radio
The ice flows through her veins (Sad story, same story, sad story)
She won't get hurt again (Sad story, same story, sad story)

What you call a love song
What you call a love song
What you call a love song
Is farthest from

Great rhythm, pitch perfect, chart topper, real rocker
Great beat, repeat, do a cover, then another

You sing heart warming songs, every day on the radio
Songs of unending love, every day on the radio
A million women scream your name (We love you, we love you, we love you)
A million chances to do what you do again

What you call a love song
Is farthest from

Ice cream is a dish best served cold.

I really like the pain and misery that you've extended through the second verse, but I lost it through the bridge and final verse as I couldn't make the connection.

I meant to comment on this earlier, but it seemed to have slipped my mind.
Love the structure. Beautiful lyrics, especially the "sad and ocean blue" and the the ice line. The bridge threw me a little first, because it steers the song into a rather unexpected direction, but taken together with the end of the lyrics works well, I think. Did you have the "girl fell for a singer" theme in mind, or am I totally on the wrong track here?

Great to see what can grow out of one line :D
Cheers,
straycat.
