Burn Our Bridges

We've come too far, to turn back now,
We're on the brink, we're almost there,
We have sailed, through stormy seas,
And now the winds, are set to fair....

We had nothing, we built from scratch,
We've worked so hard, at Herculean tasks,
Through the low times, we never wavered,
And now success, is within our grasp....

Now we can burn our bridges behind us,
Leave the old life back in the past,
We can finally cross the rubicon,
And we will never, ever look back....

To all the doubters, who said we'd fail,
Who's laughing now, we proved you wrong,
To those who said, you'll never make it,
Two fingers to you, we knew all along....

Now we can burn our bridges behind us,
Leave the old life back in the past,
We can finally cross the rubicon,
And we will never, ever look back....

To all the friends, and there weren't many,
Who stood by us, when times were tough,
Come join us in , a celebration,
We'll laugh and cry, and drink too much.....
You did not judge us, as others judged us,
You were always, scrupulously fair,
You did not criticise, you did not moralise,
And when we needed you, you were always there,

Now we can burn our bridges behind us,
Leave the old life back in the past,
We can finally cross the rubicon,
And we will never, ever look back....

OK, you usually get a bit of background information from me about where I got my inspiration from - this time, I'm just dedicating the song to two of the nicest people on the planet, two people who have built a life for themselves from nothing and who deserve every success - J & M, this one's for you!!!! (Oh and yes, there will be a celebration and yes I am invited............!!!)

Vic

I started to read this earlier but stopped at the
third line because I did not want to be influenced.
I had also used a sailing reference in my song
so backed off.

Well I don't think it would have hurt because they
are very different songs. I would have never thought
of "Burning Bridges" in such a positive light.

Will you be performing this at the celebration?

Hi

I am very interested in hearing this Vic , what style do you have in mind

I would say how it comes across to me , but I am usually wrong on that sort of thing ..

Now we can burn our bridges behind us,
Leave the old life back in the past,
We can finally cross the rubicon,
And we will never, ever look back....

enjoyed that a lot

hilch :?:

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

Celt - unfortunately, I won't be able to play this at the celebration - I'm away from home from Friday lunch to sometime monday, and I will be separated from my guitar......OMG!.....but I e-mailed the lyrics to J&M last night, they love it!

Pete (bushpig Pete).....I will probably have waaaaaaaaaaaay too much to drink.......and you can be damn sure it won't be XXXX - what is it with you Aussies, you brew the finest Lager there is - Foster's - and you drink that Castlemaine, er, stuff? The Hotel we're staying at doesn't have Foster's ( ) - on the other hand, it doesn't have XXXX (:D:D:D:D:D) - and it does have Carlsberg (:D:D:D) so it's not a total dead loss......

I'll try and record this tomorrow.....

"BTW they just call it XXXX because Queenslanders can't spell beer ....." - can't brew it either......

OK taking my last couple of cans of Carlsberg to bed....for, as Scarlett O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day - and the off-license is open at 11am.....

Oh that s just plain nasty

Us Queenslanders can so spell beeeeeur

VICTORIAN BITTER ????

You know why it has a green label Pete ?

Ever seen moss growing ? That's where Victorian Bitter comes from some slimey puss infested bog hole ..

Fosters is a New South Wales lager Vic any decent Aussie who don't live in New South Wales won't touch it

I have the little FOUREX man tattoed on my left shoulder as a sign of loyalty to a great QLD icon ( pity they sold it to the Kiwis)
Do you English still drink warm beeur ?

Have you heard that it actually tastes better cold ?

Oh one more thing Vic do you know why the pigeons fly up side down in England ?

I'll Pm the answer

As Ashley Mallet once said, "Ah - Old Trafford! Warm beer and cold pies!".....

I made the great mistake of ordering a pint of XXXX the other week - surely it can't be as bad as all that? (There was no Carlsberg or Fosters available....) Well - it was. It'll freeze over in the innermost pits of Hades before I touch that stuff again!
It's the kind of beer that makes you want to buy three pints and throw two straight down the loo, cut the middleman out. It could - with the right marketing - put Ex-lax out of business, and it has the same effect on the complexion as Agent Orange had on the Vietnamese Forests. I've seen my dogs drink out of puddles occasionally - after drinking XXXX, I know how they feel! Oh and it's not called XXXX because they can't spell - it's to hide the identities of the guilty, er, "Brewers!"

What is it about otherwise rational people that would make them want to drink XXXX? I don't understand it.....

:D :D :D

I'm starting to get the feeling you might not be overly fond of XXXX... :)

I like Amstel myself, just a bit difficult to get hold of around here. Heinekin Export and Stella are my favourites out of the rest, and I can live with Carlseberg at a stretch. Fosters, on the other hand...

Very nice lyrics BTW.
