Hi All,
Sorry for not posting or commenting last week. Seems ironic but "Family" and work commitments took alot of my time.
Had this idea about writing about my Dad who died when I was less than one year old.
I didn't get too far except for the title and opening line which I've retained here. When I read this weeks assignmenet it occurred to me that I could write him a letter.
So I guess what I have here is a combination of two weeks assignments in one song. Hope I'm not stretching the rules too much.
Oh Father Where Art Thou
Oh father where art thou
You left me quite young
A baby in arms
Your namesake and son
From my sisters I heard
How you sang us to sleep
You played your guitar
The memories they keep
(Bridge)
But I can't remember
The touch of your hand
The sound of your voice
Though they say it was grand
And I never got
To call you my Dad
To throw you a baseball
Oh the fun we'd have had
And if memories fade
Then I'm lucky I guess
If I knew you at all
Would I miss you now less
Today I'll go visit
That stone on the hill
Happy Father's Day Dad
We all love you still

Hi Celt,
What a wonderful tribute. Absolutely. It's really beautiful. I feel like I'm not being very helpful, but really, there's not much I can see here that could be improved, other than perhaps it's a bit brief. Then again, others around these parts like it that way. Last line of the bridge:
swap/of/have/
Thanks.

Thanks Scratch,
Sometimes brief is good. Sometimes stretching out and telling a long story
is good too. I think I said what was needed here. I'll use your tip on the last line of the bridge. How di you know that was the one word I struggled over? Thanks again sometimes one word makes all the difference.
Celt
nice work, you managed to get the sentiment across without crossing the line into "slushy"....your Dad would be proud of this........
:) :) :)
