For all those who've lost a loved one and at times found it hard to go on.

Choices
©JKovak

What tickles a life so sweetly
A smile, a laugh, a touch
What scars a life so deeply
Then lingers twice as much

The memories fade in consciousness
But never leave your mind
You close your eyes but restlessness
Is never hard to find

But it all comes down to your state of mind
Will you listen to the voices
When images haunt you till you wanna go blind
Will you realize it's all about choices

With open eyes you fight to forget
The wondrousness of her
Then darkness comes to collect the debt
Of happy times that were

Like hands that clutch your throat so tight
Stealing your last breath
Leaving you to dread the night
When you'll dream about her death

But it all comes down to your state of mind
Will you listen to the voices
When images haunt you till you wanna go blind
Will you realize it's all about choices

When survival sings a different tune
You know misery won't rein
And the choice of laughter heals your wounds
To let you live again

You'll know it's all about choices
Don't listen to the voices
Survivors go on to make more choices
The craziness comes, the craziness goes
How do we go on, nobody knows
Pain is inevitable, misery's not
Happiness is there, it's just that you forgot

That it all comes down to your state of mind....

Joe,

This is wonderful. I like the summation you use in the first stanza, of tickling becoming scarring, I love the words you use to demonstrate your idea. And, I especially love this: "Then darkness comes to collect the debt
Of happy times that were"

Yes, it does...been there.

And this: "Happiness is there, it's just that you forgot" Yes, right again, some of us do forget, we CHOOSE to forget, actually, that it could even be possible again, instead we carry the concrete box over our heads forever, so we don't get hurt again.

This song tells me, and others like me, to drop that heavy block - I have, but sometimes I just want to pick it up again.

It's a great song...are you putting it to music?

Thanks Elle. I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. I have music, yes. I may try to record it next weekend if I can get caught up on my work. If I do, I'll let you know. Thanks again. Have a great evening.

Hi Joe,
Good song, there are only a couple of comments that I have.
But it all comes down to your state of mind
Will you listen to the voices
When images haunt you till you wanna go blind
Will you realize it's all about choices
I felt the last line was a bit cumbersome, maybe,
Will you realize its your choices
or even
You will realize your choices

Also in this bit:
You'll know it's all about choices
Don't listen to the voices
Survivors go on to make more choices
The craziness comes, the craziness goes
How do we go on, nobody knows
Pain is inevitable, misery's not
Happiness is there, it's just that you forgot
That first and third line seem to clash in my head. Maybe this:
Survival is all about choices
Don't listen to the voices
The craziness comes, the craziness goes
How do we go on, nobody knows
Pain is inevitable, misery's not
Happiness is there, it's just that you forgot

Other than that it looks good

Paul
