Superb idea, this songwriter club!
I always have issues with lyrics; used to be I wrote something closer to poetry, these days...can't come up with any good ideas.
Basically all my songs...I don't write any lyrics until I'm recording the song already, and then I more or less just ad-lib the lyrics.
One issue with that is it is later very hard to remember the lyrics at practice, for a looong while until I memorize them.
I wish I had the time to participate, it'd be great if I was forced to come up with lyrics weekly. Could even use them for my band.
Musicwise, I never found it hard to come up with riffs and compositions - whenever I pick up the guitar I can make a new song. The trouble is usually I have two dozen great ideas for songs at any time, which get forgotten as I'm already moving on with more songs with my bands. That's why I never learn other people's riffs basically - if I learn anything new, it always sparks a torrent of riff and song ideas I can't keep track of. So I try to just stick with some specimens and make them into full songs with my bands.

over the next several weeks I won't give you anything that can't be broken down into a few minutes here and there and at the end we'll have each created a song.
I don't think I understand how to participate. I understood the idea was this time to post a list of titles, which I did, but the post was disapproved for being OT.
Apparently also YouTube videos cannot be posted, I tried to post of clip of my singing in 4 octaves and it was disapproved for promoting another webpqage or something??? I don't understand, do you have to upload the video on the forum's server instead of Youtube to get it accepted? I have to post to Questions I guess. I wrote 3 posts here and all were disapproved and I don't know why.

It may be that if you were posting a lot of things at once that the moderators may have mistaken you for a spammer. Sometimes that happens owing to the number of posts we have to go through and approve. I'd just try again. You're over the "first five posts" mark now so you should be good to post up anything.

Actually Nick's quite fair as long as one isn't insulting in his or her posts. Particularly here in the SSG forum where it's all about improving. It's not like many songwriting boards where people simply post up material for validation that it's good (and I've taught enough classes and workshops to know that many songwriters who are looking for opinions on their material are only, in truth, looking for one that matches their own opinion of their work). The emphasis is on making thing better, focusing on the ongoing work of the "writing" of "songwriting." Otherwise it would be "songwritten!" :wink:
We try to carry out that same sense of civility across the entire forum here at Guitar Noise. It's one of the few places on the Internet where most of the advice isn't couched in the first person singular. People will give you opinions from all sources, not just their own personal experience. After all, there's lot's to learn.

Oh MrEWorm, Let's not pick at old scabs shall we? Besides, I wasn't the one who deleted them and I like to think I'm fair even if the post is insulting. For instance, I'm letting that one stand.
By the way, I'd say half of the time post removal is a group decision. Anything bigger than post removal ALWAYS is discussed and agreed upon by all other moderators, including David. Even if I'm convinced I'm right I discuss with the rest of the mods before doing anything. Then again if they don't agree with me I fire them, so I have a pretty good success rate. Also someone has to be the final arbiter of what is good and right, and for better or worse, it's me. Besides, I've been doing this for ten years now. I think I've almost got the hang of it.

I'm not 100% sure if I know where should they go or what is the assignment after all. Is this week 16? Confusing trying to jump in in the middle of things. I wrote 10 song titles and I posted them to this Week 16 - titles thread but I didn't write them down anywhere...of course, I can come up with ten new ones. But that's the assignment and the thread, right?

:lol: Seriously, to get an idea what this group I checked the older posts, especially the dhodge summary of assignments in years 6-9. I am fairly new and was welcomed quickly. Check signatures and song posts for host sites where you can post song MP3s, or you can type lyrics here.
