I was inspired by the quote in the Wikipedia article that Dave posted on the Mayan calendar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar
attributed to Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc.(FAMSI) "....portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in" "

and went from their based on personal observations. Lyrics somewhat stream of consciousness with minor editing. They may need to be simplified since for music I am thinking of a hard driving slightly angry alternative rocker. Or if the music is good enough, then unintelligble verses and the repeating hook are always an option  . Comments are welcome.

I like the alliteration througout, most notably:
Photoshop flash
over ozone
power plant
flinging fire
mindless masses
Magical misdirection to maintain
fear to feed
build your bomb
Tabloids, TV
pray for protection pavlovian

There are other lesser alliterations and internal rhymes that add a lot of interest. I appreciate your listing the chords but hope that you sit down to record it.

Hi Andy

Lots to like hear and am already looking forward to hearing it. Only image that seems out of place is "Pavlovian salivate" and I'm not quite sure which way to go. The last verse doesn't really add all that much as you cover media (verses 1 and 2) and the church (verse 3) earlier and the bridge serves as a reality check. Maybe use the final verse for the doomsday notices from the government? Possible.

Regardless, one suggestion I'd like to make is to add the word "but" to the beginning of the final line of the each verse (and also the bridge). It's a small thing, yet I think it helps to separate the narrator even more from his environment, which seems to be the whole point.

Looking forward to hearing this at some point and to reading more from you.

Peace

MrEWorm,
Thanks for the read and glad you liked the wordplay. I hope to record this and the last couple before it. just need time and voice......
Dave,
Thanks for the suggestions. I like the "but" idea and will definitely put in. The last verse does seem like extra baggage, guess I don't need a moralrepetition

Hi Andy,

Looking good :D I agree with David's comment about the last verse, but what it is suggesting is a possible need for a "wrap up" thought i.e. a chorus.

Also, it's interesting how the 3rd verse didn't follow the pattern on the last line; which could lead to a re-working......
Depending on your music, here is a possible restructure.

Verse 1
C#7 l C#7 l
Grocery store aisle littered with tabloid trash
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
Red printed gossip and alien invasions
C#7 l C#7 l
Photoshop flash and papparazzi crash
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
diets psychic crystal ball twirled predictions
ll: C#7 C7 l E4maj7/B D7 :ll
I'm not BUYING WHAT THEY'RE SELLING ......or.......I'm not buying the fear to feed their deal

Chorus
I'm Not Worrying 'Bout The End Of The World
No, I'm Not Worrying 'Bout The End Of The World
I'm Not Worrying 'Bout The End Of The World

Verse 2
C#7 l C#7 l
CNN headlines shouting heads disagree
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
pointing fingers over ozone depletion
C#7 l C#7 l
Aerosol CO2 by the metric ton
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
Automobiles planes and power plant flames
ll: C#7 C7 l E4maj7/B D7 :ll
I'm not LISTENING OR GOING GREEN....or......Broadcasting fear end of the world to mindless masses

chorus

Verse 3
C#7 l C#7 l
Bible thump revivals flinging fire and brimstone
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
Antichrists leading the apocalypse
C#7 l C#7 l
Teaching revelation preaching salvation
E4maj7/B l E4maj7/B l
lining their pockets from the collection bowl
ll: C#7 C7 l E4maj7/B D7 :ll
I'm not threatened 'bout their Armageddon......keep as is

chorus

Thanks for sharing.

James

Andy, you say that this song is "somewhat stream of consciousness." It's less stream of consciousness than some of your other songs. It all ties together.

The last verse sums things up and I would keep it. But I too am confused about "pavlovian salivate."

You start out in verse 1 with what seems to be a rhyming pattern, but it never shows up again. It doesn't have to rhyme, but it's easier to remember and sing if it does.

Headcold and commitments have shifted priorities, not sure if I will get to this in whats left of the "SSG year". I have a couple of other past clunkers with EOTW references, maybe its time to combine all three to one I like
James,
Thanks as always for the suggestions.
Renee,
Thanks for the comments, when writing, I was intentionally less concerned with rhyming but then stuff like pavlovian salivate and the erratic pattern.
