Y10W30 I Was Sober Enough to Remember Your Number (And Drunk Enough to Call) (Title by David Hodge)
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11665490
verse 1
I was sober enough to remember your nagging; nitpicking too
I was sober enough to remember your cursing and all the Hell you put me through
I was sober enough to remember your temper but don't it beat it all
I was sober enough to remember your number and drunk enough to call
verse 2
I remember how you changed the locks; burned my clothes on the lawn
I remember how you smashed my truck and poisoned my dog
I remember your flirting and cheating heart but don't it beat it all
I was sober enough to remember your number and drunk enough to call
verse 3
I was sober enough to spot your lover drinking at the bar
I was sober enough to load my rifle while following his car
I was sober enough to pull the trigger but don't it beat it all
I was sober enough to remember your number and drunk enough to call
verse 4
I was sober enough with my lawyer present before the judge that day
I was sober enough when they locked me up and threw the key away
I was sober enough to regret that night I bragged and spilled it all
I was sober enough to remember your number and drunk enough to call
I was sober enough to remember your number and drunk enough to call
James,
As always very catchy, :D (smilies are back!) I like the honky-tonk piano playing and the pop music format. Aside from residing in the hook I am not catching the "drunk enough to call" part of the song. Was it "that night I bragged and spilled it all", if it is, just a thought, maybe substitute "rang" for "bragged". Or add another verse or bridge? Lovin it live it with a big Jerry Lee Lewis style finish.
Hi Andy,
Was it "that night I bragged and spilled it all", if it is, just a thought, maybe substitute "rang" for "bragged".
Yes, that's the main idea there. He committed a crime/murder and called his x to brag/tell about it.
Thanks for the listen, post and suggestion. :D I'll take a look at the wording again later.
James
Reminiscent of the late, great Steve Goodman. :D
Great write, James.
Take care,
Casey
Hi Shady Harrison,
Thanks for the listen and encouragement. :D
James
James, this song sounds like it should be played in a bar after everyone has had a chance to get drunk.
Not my type of music, but good for this genre and fun to listen to.

Hi Rene,

 I think you are on to something there....but it also might clear the bar out with everyone looking over their shoulder wondering who might be there from their lover's past
Not my type of music, but good for this genre and fun to listen to
No worries. I try to let the lyrics dictate the direction of the music and this one was screaming country/honkytonk, so I figured I'd give it a go.....
.....BTW I saw you were absent from SSG for a while. I might be doing the same and be out of it for a while as it's time for our family to do some summer traveling to the USA and I'll be away from my beloved recording equipment.
Thanks for the listen and post.
