Hi Andy

Very moody piece. It's very much in the style of some of the open-mic-night performers around here who are also very much into performance art. Like the chord progression a lot.

Also really liked the verse structure and how it played out over the course of the song's narrative and especially liked this line:

A promise today lost tomorrow

Had a bit of trouble wrapping my brain around this line from the chorus:

Old patterns wash towards waves pushed by wind

Maybe it's just how I'm picturing it in my head but if the wind is pushing the washes, should they (the waves) be washing towards the patterns and not the other way around?

Looking forward to more.

Peace

I'm not a huge fan of this style. Had you written the lyric for this kind or performance?
with the 2-0-1-4 , I thought about doing a chord progression of:
II - rest - I - IV to see if anyone caught the 2014. I hoped to write something for this week but we are at -10F the last few days and having telephone, web and furnace issues. Headed to Nashville tomorrow, seeking warmth and music.

It was an image observing waves on a windy day, your suggestion is closer to what I meant, Thanks! "old waves wash towards patterns "

This was chord progression first. Good catch on the progression, was wondering if someone would notice, would love to hear another take on the progression.
Mine actually was IIsus2 - 0(rest) - 1sus4 - 4sus4 .
Also worked it into the melody with notes per measure being 2 - 0 - 1 -4 in the verses.
For the lyric I was playing with different numeric ideas. I even checked to see if anything historical happened in 1007  But most of the ideas were numeric so then I combined it with a new years reso prompt to cobble together a lyric.
Thanks John for the listen and comments :D

Yeah, after I wrote that and was driving my car, I did a Homer Simpson "Doh!" the II chord should be, of course, a ii chord.

I am s l o w this week...took me a while to work out exactly what was going on till the penny finally dropped!

I like it, Andy....kind of song that could stay exactly as it is, or feature some lush strings, maybe a haunting wind instrument...blame PBee's flute solo last week for my thoughts taking me in that direction!

Oh, and I wouldn't worry too much about the "lousy vocal delivery." Your words, NOT mine. Didn't sound too bad to me...a couple of minor timing issues, maybe, but that's only to be expected with a brand new song, plenty of time to work the kinks out before playing it live. Sounded kind of like a cross between Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen, but different to either of them, if you know what I mean....

:D :D :D

Hi Andy,

Looks like you got some good feedback. I said "Oh, no" to myself when I saw it was posted on soundcloud b/c it usually can not play songs on soundcloud. I don't know if it's my computer or ip address. Anyway I got an error message and couldn't listen

This was my message:
