I was thinking that what's precarious isn't necessarily objective. Some people do whitewater rafting for the thrill. Some drive too fast. Sometimes precariousness is all in the mind.

Recording here:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=832466&songID=12742509

verse:

You shop for food at five o'clock
On a Sunday morning.
There's no one there, but anything
Can happen without warning.

chorus:

It's precarious.
It's perilous.
It's dicey and uncertain.
There are criminals,
The unthinkable.
So stay home and close the curtains.

verse:

If you travel you might get lost.
So you haven't left town in years.
You're sure there's something bad out there.
You can't ignore your fears

chorus

verse:

Your neighbors think it's hilarious
That you stay home so much.
They don't understand how precarious
Things are. They've misjudged.

chorus

verse:

You missed your Sunday shopping this week.
Nobody thought to check.
You died alone in your own home.
Your absence undetected.

chorus

I'm glad you put something together. I was feeling guilty. I made several starts but never got any traction.
I like the time changes and the minor turn at the end of the verses.

Hi Renee,

Nice job! I like what you are doing with the melody and chords.

Suggestion: Maybe have the singee order his/her groceries on line to emphasize the shut-in.

Also, "hilarious" seems a bit of a stretch...maybe "furious" for never watering the lawn.

Your neighbor's getting furious
That you never water your lawn
They don't understand life's precarious
Things can go so wrong

Thanks for sharing.....and stay safe

The tune mostly came to me all at once after I had been playing some old swing songs. That explains why it turned out more interesting than some of the things I've written.

I may change the word "hilarious" to "curious." I agree that "hilarious" doesn't fit well. I used it largely because it rhymes well with "precarious."

As far as ordering groceries in, I never thought about that. I'm not even sure that such a service exists where I live. I really do have a neighbor who does her shopping around 5:00 AM on Sundays. She hates crowds. I hear her car pull out long before I'm ready to get out of bed. She comes back around the time I'm waking up.
