Y13W25 How Much of Myself Must I Give?
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13104717
God, I’m a decent ordinary guy
I go to church on Sundays and try to do what’s right
But You say You want all my time
Chorus
How much of myself must I give?
How much of myself must I give?
How much of myself must I give?
How much of myself?
God, like a decent ordinary egg
I don’t want to be a bird, but I want to fly someday
So I stay safe in my shell
chorus
God, You’re asking for what’s mine
If you take everything, I have nowhere left to hide
But You say even Jesus died
chorus
Seems to me you've given an awful lot of yourself to the SSG, James...
Reading through the lyrics, I was wondering what you were going to come up with musically - I was thinking, solo acoustic guitar and a tambourine. Might be a nice idea to throw a tambourine in at the first chorus, one beat to the bar, then two beats to the bar for the second verse, then 4 beats at the end to instill a sense of urgency...
Lyrically, can't find fault...especially like the second verse, with the contrast between being a good egg and staying in one's shell.
As always, nice work.
:D :D :D

"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
The song file won't open so I'm just going on the lyrics. I'm not following the story line at this point. I'm sure that once I hear it, everything will be clear
I got an error message too when I went to the Soundclick site.
I thought I understood the theme as a religious calling of some kind. But I don't get the part about "nowhere left to hide."

I try reloading the song. Hopefully it's working now.
It's working now. Good rocking song. I hear the Jamesettes doing background vocals. I don't understand the theology but I'll accept that you do.
Hi Vic,
Might be a nice idea to throw a tambourine
I couldn't get a tambourine to work out, so I put in a drum loop to play around with it....no worries, though, still a sketch recording.
Hi John,
It's working now.
Thanks for the confirmation.
I hear the Jamesettes doing background vocals.
 Yes, always nice to have those multiple personalities to put a ditty together.
I don't understand the theology but I'll accept that you do.
Thanks, John.
Hi Renee,
I thought I understood the theme as a religious calling of some kind. But I don't get the part about "nowhere left to hide."
The idea is we hide parts of who we are from others and God.
So the idea is similar to marriage. God (the singee) want total commitment. The singer wants the marriage but still wants to also live like a bachelor, or have extra marital relationships.
Not the clearest analogy, but kind of the idea.
There's a better explanation from the source of inspiration for the lyrics in a book by C.S. Lewis called Mere Christianity.
Thanks, all, for the listens and posts :D
