Y13W31 My Family Doesn’t Support My Music
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13137449
=====Revised Version=====
I have a gift of music
And I share it with my family lovingly
Like the thoughtful father I am I take my children’s’ IPods
Replace their One Direction with my song of the week
My daughter asks for help with her homework
I say only if she shares her diary
I need inspiration for my songs
I can love like a father and steal like a thief
Chorus
My family doesn’t support my music
My family doesn’t support my music
My family doesn’t support my music
‘Cause my music doesn’t support my family
My son asks for help with his pitch
But I’ve got to scratch this songwriter’s itch
He invites me to his games and I just pray for rain
I’ll buy a baseball team once we’re rich
chorus
My wife asks for help with the trash
I nod and say I will in a few minutes
Hours pass it’s another dinner without me
But true art can’t be stopped ‘til it’s finished
chorus
Bridge
So why do we do the things we do
We get by, by and by
There’s no price tag on this songwriter’s head
But I’ll be composing till I’m dead and decomposing in a flowerbed
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe it won’t sound a bit cliché
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe it won’t sound a bit like this
=====Original Version=====

I love and cherish my family
And my family loves and cherishes me
But I spend a lot of time with my music
And my family spends a lot of time without me
Chorus
My family doesn’t support my music
My family doesn’t support my music
My family doesn’t support my music
‘Cause my music doesn’t support my family
I spend a lot of time at work
And my work takes a lot out of me
Papers piled high; in the office 9 to 5
I’ll be working ‘til the day I die
chorus
Bridge
So why do we do the things we do
We get by, by and by
There’s no price tag on this songwriter’s head
But the songs make me feel alive
chorus
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe it won’t sound a bit cliché
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe the next song’s a hit
Maybe it won’t sound a bit like this
A good start. I like the two meanings of "support" in the chorus.
Think about some more concrete verses around not spending time with your family and their reaction. Some ideas:
My daughter asks when I'll stop playing.
I tell her in a few minutes...
My wife demands that I put the guitar down...
They eat without me because I'm not finished...

Hi James
That was fun! I agree with Renee that it could certainly use more specific details and I'd also suggest that you shouldn't be shy about going over the top with this one. The chorus is such a delight that it would be a shame not to do so. You might want to give Harry Chapin's "Six-String Orchestra" a listen if you have the chance.
Looking forward to more.
Peace
Hi Renee and David,
Thanks for the feedback :D

Thanks. I hadn't heard before.
POOF  Changes made
Clever and entertaining. Your family might even like this one.

Thanks, Renee :D
