I asked my 12 yr old daughter. If she could go anywhere in the world where are the 5 places she’d like to go. She said, “McDonalds, Number 8, Fuji, Pepper Lunch, and Chester’s” (all food places).

I said again ANYWHERE in the world. She said, “Yes.” I said, “I probably shouldn’t have asked you when you are hungry.” LOL

…well it was enough to prompt this song idea :D

=====Revised Version=====

Well I asked Suzie Pitts is their anywhere in the world
Anywhere in the world you’d rather be
She said take me to McDonald’s
Take me to McDonald’s
I want a Quarter Pounder with cheese if you please
I might be a small town girl but even a small town girl needs to eat

Well I asked Bobby Johnson is their anywhere in the world
Anywhere in the world you’d rather be
He said take me to Hooter’s
Take me to Hooter’s
I need an Orange Shorts Margarita if you please
I might be a small town boy but even a small town boy needs to drink

Well I asked Larry Little is their anywhere in the world
Anywhere in the world you’d rather be
He said meet me in the alley
Meet me in the alley
And bring your pack of Marlboros if you please
I might be a small town guy but even a small town guy needs to breathe

Well I asked Fiona Apple is their anywhere in the world
Anywhere in the world you’d rather be
She said meet me at the Gates of Eden
Meet me at the Gates of Eden
And bring your bolt cutter if you please
I might be a small town gal but even a small town gal needs to dream
Even a small town

Hi James

Very nice - love the music, the overall feel, and the energy of the lyrics.

Wondering about the focus on the "small town" aspect, though. I've played this for a few students and friends (without them seeing the title, lyrics, or the story behind it all) and all of them guessed that the title would be "Anywhere in the World" because they thought it was more about the wanting to be someplace else rather than about being about the small town. All the various characters could easily be from different small towns and not from one single place, so the bridge:
You don’t need no GPS for this town
Small town

seems a little disjointed, as if it's simply filling space and not contributing to either the overall narrative of the song or the feel. You could easily drop it from the song without losing anything.

Another idea might be to link the taglines of each verse in the bridge. Maybe something along the lines of:
You can eat and drink and breathe in a small town
You can eat and drink and breathe anywhere in the world

You could then repeat this with "eat and drink and breathe and dream" after the last verse if you wanted to bring the bridge back again.

I'm not really sure this works, but it's just a thought about trying to link the "small town" aspect (which truly seems more of a simple way to unite the last lines of each verse) with the "anywhere in the world" theme, which comes across stronger throughout the song as it stands now.

Anyway, as always, this was a lot of fun to listen to and perhaps I'm really overthinking it!

Looking forward to more.

Peace

Hi David,

Thanks for the listen and feedback :D

I changed the title to "Anywhere (In This Small Town)"

...and POOF  Bridge cut

Does that make it work?

I do think it comes across with more focus this way. Of course, I really liked it before, too, so maybe my opinion doesn't count for much.

By the way, I like the high-pitched stringed instrument. It sounds a bit like a cavaquinho. Is that (whatever it is) also a recent purchase?

Peace

Ok. Well, we'll leave it as is for now
