Firstly, farewell to Best. I was barely born by the time he join Vancouver, so never saw him in his hey-day. Though what i have seen read made his legendary status quite clear. all this from a liverpool fan. (i was as disappointed in the behaviour of the liverpool fans at the weekend as everyone else, mind).Best. a troubled genius. is there any other kind?

This though is for the late Elliott Smith.

No Name #7

I heard a song that spoke straight to my pain
I sang your song before I even knew your name
You gave no answers
just the comfort of someone who felt the same

I would drive the streets to you, spitting your whispering rage
I sang along as you hunted for pretty Mary K
I would fall asleep to you
assuring that London Bridge was ok…

You showed me four, to five of five, to five, to home
From you I learnt three four time, steady as a metronome
You showed me more of melody
Than I'll ever fully know

You showed how a change of key
Can so lift the melody

(Then) You went ‘n' joined that stupid club
You must've hurt to much to see
What you made so clear to me

Sozay,

Welcome Back haven't seen you around in awhile.

I'm not very familiar with Mr. Smith's work so I don't
get some of the references. But I like the feel of
the piece and from what I've read he was a
"troubled genius" and I think you caught that in your song.

Bit difficult to comment on this - I have never even heard of Eliot Smith, so the references to his work are over my head...that said, it reads well and it's obvious he was a big hero/influence....

Another name to read up on....

:D :D :D

Really good job here. It really displays how a lot of Elliott fans feel when pertaining to him. Great job. I love Elliott. He was amazing.

I join the list that dont know who you are referring to but MAN I really like the way you put the lines together. I thought it was very flowing, poetic, and you did a great job.
