hey. gotta say protest songs are not my strength  but gave it a shot anyway. here you go.

Tumbledown

How come all the epilogues I've read
are open ends without explanations
- or simply shift to death -
How come all the interpretations paint the canvas black
while I tend to leave history's pages blank,
- not because of hope or anything -
Sad but true, most of the time I am just not caring

Yes, she made me watch the news again
Drama on heavy rotation, themes only slightly different
All these discussions and silences
About a president never elected
The fall of a 3rd world country
Another species eradicated
Or the growth of poverty
And I don't merely mean the lack of money here
Because sometimes it seems like every heart is unplugged
Power is the off switch, ignorance causes offence
And it should make me feel upset

And I say.... I tend to keep things at bay,
So they... cannot trouble me
And I may.... appear cold, emotionless
Well, issues of tragedy and violence
I struggle not to think about them
For if I would I was already lost by now

Oh, but even I, with my apathy and selfish longings and that threat everyone has
Oh, yes, even I sense the stench of what is called human
It's a tumbledown building, this day and age,
It's a tumbledown building without any plan
Of reconstruction being made
Or if there's one the attempt to make an application's failed

...tumbledown gate...

that's it.
cheers,
bluenightangel

Damn you woman, you took the words right out of my mouth!!!

Yeah, it's kind of easy to forget about other people's miseries, own own trivialities seem to come first, and it's easy to become immune to subjects like poverty, crime ad violence when there's such an emotional overload of it on our TV screens night after night...

"Because sometimes it seems like every heart is unplugged
Power is the off switch,"

"And I say.... I tend to keep things at bay,
So they... cannot trouble me
And I may.... appear cold, emotionless
Well, issues of tragedy and violence
I struggle not to think about them
For if I would I was already lost by now "

I think these lines are truly excellent, a lot of people may be squirming in their seats right now

Definitely works as a protest song, in a sort of edgy, uncomfortable way...

Excellent work!!!

:D :D :D

Bluenightangel,

To Quote You;
Yes, she made me watch the news again
Drama on heavy rotation, themes only slightly different

Althought I like to keep up with world and local news I sometimes
find myself having to take a break from all the death and mayhem.

Hi Bluenight,

A mixed bag here for me. I think these lines are brilliant:
Because sometimes it seems like every heart is unplugged
Power is the off switch, ignorance causes offence
And it should make me feel upset

And I say.... I tend to keep things at bay,
So they... cannot trouble me
And I may.... appear cold, emotionless
Well, issues of tragedy and violence
I struggle not to think about them
For if I would I was already lost by now
But what troubles me about this song is that I feel that its too much in the “first person”. To me it reads more about the emotions of the “first person” and not enough about the issue. That's not to say that this is not a valid song, but as a protest song about poverty Im not so sure.

As a song about how tragedy and poverty not to mention the media frenzy makes you feel I think you've done a really good job :D .

Great again. Some of the lines seemed stretched out, but i'm sure you've had enough experience in writing that they will fit right into place to the music. Every meaning fit right in to place. I also loved how it wasn't on just one topic that you feel strongly of. It spred through everything we see on the news, with very strong word I might ad. This song kind of reminded me of Mudvayne's "TV, Radio" if anyone has heard it. Keep it up!

There's a thin fine line between hate and rage.
Now watch the line be crossed and break!
