...in other words, a bunch of first verses for other people's song titles:
HANGING BY A WIRE
You pulled the floor out from under me
I fell and I fell and I fell
It took a shock like that to make me see
I didn't know you so well
Now I'm balanced on a ledge
Sweating from the fire
Clinging to the edge
And hanging by a wire
ROADMAP OF YOUR FACE
You're not young any more
Except inside your mind
The things you sought before
You now know how to find
You've got a lot of past
But still you can put it all behind
I can follow the wrinkles in your face
They can lead me to almost any place
PILLS FOR THE MOMENT
You gave me value for value
You gave me tit for tat
Water for gasoline
A collar for my cat
You gave me a lesson
I needed to learn
Pills for the moment
And garbage to burn
LAST PAPER AIRPLANE
(Being British I sneakily changed to the British spelling of 'aeroplane' for a crucial extra syllable to help the metre...)
They're processing the passengers
Sitting in the hall
They're passing through the checkpoint
Here comes the final call
There's just one more passenger
They still have to find
For the last paper aeroplane
Leaving from my mind
"You do things I cannot see, the only fool around here is me. I see things you cannot do, the only fool around here is you."
I appear to have fallen victim to puritanical censorship bots!
In 'Pills for the Moment' the line should, as you can probably all work out, not read "You gave me mammary for tat" but (oh horrors) a three letter word which in some senses is a synonym for 'mammary'.
Away with such prudery!
"You do things I cannot see, the only fool around here is me. I see things you cannot do, the only fool around here is you."
Ewww... I especially like those last two.
In fact, I felt inspired enough to add another verse . . . already . . .
and have alternate wording for the first . . . if you don't mind.
Last Paper Airplane (JaytheJoker)
They're processing the passengers
Lined up at the gate
They're passing through the checkpoint
All hurry up and wait
There's just one more passenger
They still have to find
For the last paper aeroplane
Leaving from my mind
It's my last flight from your world, dear
I've tried this before
It's my final fight with you, dear
They've locked the cabin door
On a folded piece of paper
Words I leave behind
On the last paper aeroplane
Leaving from my mind
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Is it next week yet?
Pills for the Moment (James Toffee)
You gave me value for value
You gave me t it for tat
Water for gasoline
A collar for my cat
You gave me a lesson
I needed to learn
Pills for the moment
And garbage to burn
You promised me paradise
Instead I got hell (But you gave me hell)
Burnt toast for breakfast
And reasons to yell
You gave me sarcasm
With nothing to believe in
Pills for the moment
And time to get even
A suggestion for the first one . . .
Hanging by a Wire (Dylan Barrett)
You pulled the floor out from under me
I fell and I fell and I fell
It took a shock like that to make me see (It took a shock like that for me to see)
As I read it, this flows a little better and better matches the rhythm of the first line.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
a three letter word which in some senses is a synonym for 'mammary'.
Away with such prudery!
 I thought you were just going for a very high brow approach.....I mean I did have to look up "prudery"
Good starts and follow ups on the vs2s
