I just dropped by to check out the SSG this morning and maybe get some inspiration. Turns out it worked. Hope everyone's doing ok :)
"It's Only A Matter Of Time"
Rain drops patter on a rain coat
Tappin out a soft drum beat
Dogs out barkin in the alleyway
They caught the smell of a stranger on me
And when I come creepin up the back stairs
Well there may be hell to pay
Or I might just find you sleepin there
Dodge that bullet for another day
But its only a matter of time til I'm found out
Yeah it's only a matter of time til I'm found out
I can't lie to me
Like I lie to you
So darlin there aint no doubt
Oh its only a matter time til I'm found out
And they say the rain'll wash ya
But some dirty just don't come clean
On nights like these don't wanna close my eyes
For fear of what the daylight brings
Cause Lord I am all but certain
That some mornin I'll find you gone
Got my skeletons hangin in the closet baby
And the thunder just rattles the bones
And it's only a matter of time til I'm found out
Yeah its only a matter of time til I'm found out
I can't lie to me
Like I lie to you
So darlin there aint no doubt
Oh its only a matter time til I'm found out
And if I could
I surely would
Be a good man
And I'd give you all of this cold black heart of mine
But I can't and so
What you don't know
Wont hurt me
But its only a matter of time
yeah Its only a matter of time
(repeat chorus)

You can and should buy my album "Scoundrels!" in mp3 format on amazon.com or iTunes etc...
I like this . . . a lot.
Can't think of anything to improve it . . .
(the use of 'dirty' instead of 'dirt' threw me for a minute . . . until I realized it's . . . a colloquialism.)
Let's put some music to it!
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Nothing much I can find fault with here....hey, that's my job, playing Devil's Advocate, finding faults.
There's a nice flow to the verses - I haven't got the same feel for the choruses, they seem a little - fragmented - but doubtless (from past experience!) you'll find a way to make them fit the music.
Good writing.

Marv,
Nothing much I can find fault with here...
I've got to agree with that but for one small thing.
Shouldn't the first line read:
Rain drops patter on MY rain coat
Just a thought

Good write :D
I agree with the other comments/suggestions for improvement.
Suggestions:
#1
What you don't know
Wont hurt me
I like the play off the idea and the twist of words, but it seems in conflict with the other idea
I can't lie to me
Like I lie to you
b/c in the second lines "I can't lie to me" it sounds like it is hurting him or he is hurting himself...internally/emotionally
#2
Consider the possibility of tying the title in a bit more with rain....For example "Caught in the Rain"....for the idea of playing with the word "Caught" regarding the rain and the affair.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Marv, always a pleasure seeing you around :D
I really like:
the flow of the verses, the more rain patter flow feel of the chorus & ending
the sound of "matter" and "patter" together
the rain as music idea, the bullet-dodging (somehow ties in with the rain for me)
And they say the rain'll wash ya
But some dirty just don't come clean - love these liens.. but just wondering if "dirty" is a typo and was meant to be "dirt"? "dirty" sounds a little awkward to me, but then again, English, of course, isn't my mother tongue

Would love to hear this, but no pressure
As to James' title suggestion, I quite like the simple, everyday phrase title you chose because, ever since falling for Kristofer Åström's music, I see that there is much beauty in those, if combined with strong lyrics such as yours  Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for sharing.

The use of dirty in this case is an American colloquialism, Straycat.
Your English is very good. The term also caught my attention.
It's more like a country/western term (think cowboy-type scenario).
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
i see, thanks, Ken! :D
i'm sorry i overlooked that in your first reply
