Y8W47 Run With Scissors

They're taking me to hospital
My nervous twitch starts to flare
They label me as criminal
Beyond repair; beyond repair
It's three a.m. they wheel me in
Strapped to a chair without a prayer
The doctor swears under his breath
The nurses stare; they all stare at me
A benzo haze is playing me
They've shaved my head; and burned my hair
As I awake mid-surgery
I think how life can be unfair
IV drip snags a chair
Off the gurney; reach the hall
Stumble down a flight of stairs
Run with scissors through the hospital
Run with scissors through the hospital
Run with scissors through the hospital
You ain't gonna touch me, egghead
Put away your chemicals
You're messing with a pure-bred
You ain't gonna touch my bed spread
Put away your lipstick
Don't care if you're drop dead gorgeous
The orderlies pour out in scores
Their thirst for blood is visible
My shoulder hits the double doors
Run with scissors through the hospital
Run with scissors through the hospital
Run with scissors through the hospital
James, I love the way you constantly surprise me and come up with something way out of left field (to borrow an American idiom I've always liked....)
There's a delicious dark, almost gothic feel to this - I'm not sure who the narrator/protagonist is supposed to be, but it's a song that seems as if it's been written around a film - for me, it's almost - but not quite - "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and I've loved that film for over thirty years!
"A benzo haze is playing me
They've shaved my head; and burned my hair
As I awake mid-surgery

That part reminds me more of the Green Mile - you know, the part where Percy doesn't wet the sponge....yech!
Doesn't really matter where you got your ideas from, though - what does matter is that you got a really good song out of it. At the end of the day, that's ALL that matters!
Well done, mate - good writing!
:D :D :D

Hi Vic,
Thanks for the listen and encouraging feedback :D

Yes, I played with the idea of a film-summary-song but decided not to go that route as in the end it seemed a bit of a bore to go through.

Gruesome indeed!

You're dead on with your comments for this song....it's a potpourri of macabre so the sources are irrelevant. Rather bits of familiarity to piece-mail together a new creature.
Cheers,
James
BTW Kudos for the challenge! This one was tougher than I thought it would be.....nice throwing out of right field!
