Hello

I don't think this needs more introduction than I wrote
on a 2-1/2 hour drive back from Boston last night.
(I think that fits the assignment)

Most of you know the long story and if you don't
it can be found here.

The short story is Shaun is "Coming Home" Tues 11-22-05

That's tomorrow as I post this.

I recorded a rough Mp3 this morning.

Coming Home

It's a long way from the Berkshires to Boston
And these cold November winds they chill my bones
All the leaves are gone
As I try to write this song
But soon you'll be coming home

It's a long way from Seven to Manhood
A long time before you are grown
And the ones that you hold dear
Will always be near
And soon you'll be coming home

Tomorrows are our dreams
They're waiting to happen
Yesterdays will always be gone
And what we say today
Will slowly drift away
And the miles will always be too long

It's a long way from the Berkshires to Boston
And these cold November winds they chill my bones
But you sleep well tonight
Know everything's alright
'Cause soon you'll be coming home

Yeah soon you'll be coming home

John

Well Done John. Your vocals remind me Mark Knoppler. Lovely tune, something your grandson will be able to cherish all his life

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I don't think it matters how far exactly, just that it is too far.

Good song here, some great lines and knowing the inspiration it is extremely poignant. There is definitely something great here and I think it is the way in which you look at everything that has passed and all that is yet to come. I think that this piece has a really great feel, a tone that speaks as much as the lyrics.

I really like this and it makes me think that sometimes we get caught up too much in the technique of writing lyrics, however important, and forget to connect with them on an emotional level. But here is a great exapmle of that combination of technique and inspiration, at least in my opinion.

Oh, and give Shaun a welcome home from me.

Good writing.

Pete. :)

Thank You very much

This song is already out of date because we
brought Shaun home yesterday. Oh Well

OK so Boston isn't all that far about 140 miles and a 2 1/2 hours
drive. (If traffic is with you). But it is the other end of the state
and a different world as far as Shaun was concerned. Although
he was pleased to be in the Hometown of his beloved Red Sox.

You have all left me speechless with your compliments
so I'll say,

Thank You all again.

WOW that was amazing. Today is the first day I listened or read the lyrics. I have been slacking in my responsibilites. :D I am just so impressed.

One suggestion, and I know its not exactly as you meant it, is the following.
It's a long way from Seven to Manhood
A long time before you are grown
And the ones that you hold dear
Will always be near
And soon you'll be coming home

Instead of "Will always be near"

I would write "We'll always be near" Same sound when singing it but makes it more personal on who he hold dear. Am I making any sense?

Anyways, either way its an incredible tune.

I really liked this, John. It gave me a warm feeling, which I think it would have even if I hadn't known the history. Well done.

Joe
