I'm Back!
Or at least I hope so. My apologies for going missing for so long but
real life gets in the way sometimes. It's nice to see so much new blood
around.Welcome and I'm looking forward the checking out your songs.
I don't think I quite made the assignment because there is one chord
change on the final word of the verse but I did try to keep the song
as minimal as possible.

[D]Don't know how I'm gonna sleep at night
Keep the house teach the kids what's[G] right
Now that my [D]Baby's gone
Now that my [A7]Baby's gone
[G]She's gone a[D]way
Don't know I'm gonna work each day
Pay the bills put some money away
Now that my Baby's gone
Now that my Baby's gone
She's gone away
Oh Lord my Baby's gone
My Baby's gone
She's gone away
Don't know I'm gonna get along
Days are short the nights are to darn long
Now that my Baby's gone
Now that my Baby's gone
She's gone away
Now that my[G] Baby's gone
Now that my[D] Baby's gone
Now that my[A7] Baby's gone
[G]She's gone a[D]way

I'm going to praise this song this way . . .
This is the type of song I would like to be able to create . . .
mournfully melodic,
pretty melody that's easily memorable (in fact I'd like to sing this myself),
apparently minimal guitar since it's only one chord (yet I'm not yet capable of doing)
The only line that didn't go down as smoothly is
. . . put a little money away
Not because it didn't sing well . . .
because (I felt) another reason involving the kids should be brought up again . . . for not sleeping.
But then again . . . putting money away (for a rainy day) is probably for the kids . . . so disregard that.
So, ummh . . . I guess, darn it, it's perfect as is.

I'm Back!
Well it's about time!
My apologies for going missing for so long but real life gets in the way sometimes.
Yeah, it does, doesn't it - OK, so no apologies needed. Flit in and out as you please - you know there'll always be a warm welcome here for you. We'll save you a chair, pour you a drink - though it may go flat! - and save some food from the buffet....
As for the song - well, you didn't quite make it all the way through the verse, but that's OK - one of the examples I quoted was "Paperback Writer," McCartney NEARLY made it all the way through the verse on one chord.....I think we can forgive one beat out of thirty-two.
As for the MP3? Sounds fine to me - same old voice, not QUITE as bluesy as in the old days (last year?) but the feeling's still there...sounds like you've been doing a bit of double-tracking, and a little echo? or delay? Whatever, it's sounding good - and.....
Good to have you back, John! Drop in as and when you can - it's nice to have a few new faces around here (and boy, aren't they GOOD?) but it's also nice to see some of the old faces have still got the old magic......
:D :D :D

Hi Vic, Edit: I mean Celt :!:
Nice song. Your guitar sounds a bit out of tune.
I like the doubled vocals. Cool. Maybe pull the secondary vocal way back in the mix and pan it.
I think you could consolidate some lyrics. For instance:
Don't know I'm gonna work each day
Pay the bills put a little money away
Could be:
Don't know I'm gonna work each day
Pay the bills put some money away
To me it flows better and sound a little more rural. I'm not sure if you want to sound more rural. :)

Nice!!
I was wondering, are you using two guitars here? It almost sounds like two guitars playing the same thing just like a split second apart.
In Space, no one can hear me sing!
John,
I enjoyed the listen. :note2: The lyrics look good, too...easy to follow but still open to the listener to fill in why "baby is gone".
Suggestion:
It's more personal preference, but the hook came in a bit too soon for me. I would have preferred the first to verses together first then the hook/chorus.
Nice Song! :D It's still floating around my head after one listen and reading through the other posts.

Thanks Guys
Your comments made me take a second look at this. The doubled vocals came as a bit of a fluke.
I recorded the vocals dry and felt they needed some reverb. The second track became the first
and the first got edited as backing. The guitar was recorded with chorus effect the same guitar
recorded twice. This may have been been a bit much so I've toned down the effect and taken a
different approach to the second guitar and mixing. I've change the "a little money" to "some money",
which really does seem to work better, made a new MP3 and updated Sound Click.

Thanks again

It's good John. Not sure what you would do with this but I like the sparseness of it and that is causing me to have second thoughts about doubled vocals through most of the song. Seems like guitar slide and voice are all thats needed because it is sad and lonely. I could see the backing vocals done with a female singer. Oh maybe someone like Emmylou Harris. :D
But those are just my prefs. Thanks for working on it.

That would work fine by me
If either of you know how to get in touch with Emmy Lou
tell her I'd love to work with her on this.
A more likely choice might be Kathy Reichert.

I have to admit, that when I listened earlier, the though came to mind! :P Great Song John. I love the simplicity of the song as a whole.
Now if I could just come up with a song.... any song, I'd be thrilled!
Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.
Liked the first MP3....LOVED the second one. In this case, less is definitely more. It has the instantly familiar feeling of a song I've known for years, but the freshness of this week's writing.
So a duet's a possibility, then? Even better!
:D :D :D
