A new poster, nj&ear, is coming up with some pretty sharp comments in the new tone pot thread (maintenance forum). I've left a friendly warning, but he bears watching. Not least because I believe that he also has another handle, called unklmickey. New handles to tear someone apart are usually signs of trouble.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

A very wise and noble man once told me ( I think just last week) ..."If you wrestle with a pig in the mud you will get dirty, and the pig likes it"...( this is where I would be posing in the lotus position with a beatific smirk on my face

I don't know. That thought occurred to me. We've made peace on the two fora I know I've encountered him on. This guy doesn't have any identifying information in his profile.

Thanks. I'm not convinced the guy's right, but I'd like to hear his rationale and don't want to fight.

I'm considering a reply, to nj&ear's latest missive:

"Greybeard,

I COULD be totally flippant and say, “That's the reader's problem.”……..but I WON”T.
Taking that attitude would be totally disrespectful and ignorant.
Bad advice IS bad advice. Bad advice causes people to unnecessarily waste money time, and effort.
I agree.
If telling someone they are wrong when they ARE, bruises their ego, so much the better. Perhaps they will re-assess what they know, and what they think they know.
Utter rubbish. Bruising someone's ego is far more likely to induce intransigence and reduce their willingness to learn. The chances are that you would be regarded as condescending, disrespectful and ignorant.
If a reader thinks I am uncivil and rude, well, I'll just have a good cry about it. Boohoo. Okay, I'm done now.
This rather reinforces any impression, already gained, that you are condescending, disrespectful and ignorant.
I think you can read into that, I am much more concerned about helping people avoid making bad choices, than I am about their perception of my civility.
No, I read into it that you are condescending, disrespectful and ignorant, but, as you (don't) say, that's my problem.

If you can get rid of the condescending attitude and show some respect for the other members of GN, I, for one, will be more than happy to read what you have to say and to learn more about pickups and their workings."

Any comments?

I have no edits to your response - looks good. Go get 'im. Why should Nick have all the fun?

That sounds OK, but I'm thinking that maybe we should cut our loses fairly quick here if this one don't straighten up and fly right.

Wow, it sounds like this guy will soon go the way of Staind and he whose name must not be mentioned. If they can't stay on their meds, they can't stay on the board.

Are we doing something to attract these drongos or is it just silly season?

Looks fine to me Graham

We'll see how he takes to being criticised - maybe I'll bruise his ego and cause him to re-evaluate his behaviour (along with porcine pilots being witnessed).

I think it may have something to do with the time of year, Alan. Perhaps things will quieten down after Hallowe'en.

Are my eyes deceiving me or do we have a spell checker given our posts the once-over?
