... but I found this elsewhere. It decribes a auto forum-spammer tool. I don't know if it helps us prevent these.
"This message posted by Forum Poster 30-days trial version, Please visit htt p:/ /f p.icon tool. com for more information."

I checked, and a simple Google search indicates this:

"Forum Poster allow you to post any message you want to over 40000 forum boards.

The current version can post to
1. phpBB Forum Boards from version 2.0.0 to 2.0.21
2. phpBB 3.0 "Olympus" Beta 2
3. Invision Power Board
4. Snitz Forums 2000
5. vBulletin 3

Forum Poster automatically register a user with the username, e-mail and password you typed on the board. It login as the registered user on the board and then post it. All made automatically. Just one click! "

I think clubbing or caning would be good punishments for these dillholes.

We've been having trouble with some of these over on the Big Road Blues Forum recently.

Then there was a social retard college kid who posted wanting the spammer to contact him to work together on a proposed project, giving a contact E-mail on Yahoo with a handle like "SpamMaster," got mad when I edited out his plea and he got some negative feedback, got madder when the admin deleted his new user account with the name "God," and spammed shock porn images all over the board. Ended up sparking a long discussion involving that cretin and many others in "The Cheap Seats" section where nonmembers could post, he tried many times to rejoin the forum, and ultimately the admin had to shut down our picture posting, personally screen all new member applications, and turned off public access to "The Cheap Seats." As for the kid, I easily found his Xanga that he'd posted under one of his unique handles, and at least another guy did, too. The kid was too stupid to realize how we knew so much about him!

When the kid apologized and wanted to rejoin the forum, I was willing to shake hands, let bygones be bygones and let him back in, figuring he'd soon get bored and move on, but too many of the members and the admin were irretrievably pissed off at him. So our friendy little blues board has been messed up for the long haul, like airline travel post terrorism.

The really infuriating thing about all this spam is that the spammers are not getting rich off it. It would still suck for everyone else if they were making mountains of money. But they're not. So all the aggravation they cause achieves nothing. Like the "Forum Poster Tool" Dan posted, these guys grab a tool that someone else made and they expect to get rich with it. Oh, how little they know.

Reckon they'll ever wise up enough to give up on it?

Heck, I'm still getting the original Nigerian scam spams that started circa 2000.

I doubt it. A lot of the spamming is viral. So even when they stop working on it, the darn thing is still bouncing around out there. Hence the Nigerian scam. And as they say, there's a fool born every minute. Someone is always going to pick it up and give it a try. It'll take a while for each person to realize that they aren't going to get rich quickly. The real dumb ones will be the most persistent.

Spamming forums is kind of like me spray painting "www.guitarnoise.com" on the side of somebody's house, and expecting my financial gain to outweigh all the trouble I caused to the community.

Not to hijack the thread, but did you know we have a copycat site (not in appearance)? Goes under the name of Guitarvoice and describes itself as the only website without filth, etc. so that even youngsters can feel comfortable. All sounds very familiar, doesn't it? Maybe trying to get hits on the back of our popularity and other's poor googling ability.

They do have some nice backing tracks, though

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I didn't know about that site. I think youngsters don't mind filth so much. It's the parents that are uncomfortable with it.

I've often wanted to register the domain guitarboise.com. It's my most common typo when I'm at a cafe somewhere. Maybe others have made the same mistake. And it just might make people in Boise feel special. Is it worth an extra $7 a year?

I don't often make a typo when entering in the domain name here, but it's hell at work when I try to type anything that begins with gu , the rest of guitarnoise just follows.
