News And Announcements

Greetings!

Welcome to Guitar Noise News!

Owing to my inability to read a calendar (or to at least remember what day of the week it is!), the newsletter is a bit abbreviated this week. Still, you’ll find some cool new stuff has gone online since last week. And there’s more to come!

New Articles And Lessons

Harvest Moon
Easy Songs for Beginners #29
by David Hodge

I can’t think of a much better way to kick off this year’s Easy Songs for Beginners Lessons than to start with a classic Neil Young tune. Have fun learning something about chord voicing, strumming, Drop D tuning and even a little ear training on the side. Plus, we’ve a bonus MP3 especially for all you twelve-string guitar players!

Worth A Look

Most people come to Guitar Noise these days either for the forums or the song lessons. But we’ve also a lot of articles on many different topics. Some even contain hidden treasures, such as the song lesson on the Allman Brothers’ song Melissa, which you can find, believe it or not, in an article about getting started on the twelve-string guitar. It’s called Double Your Pleasure.

Take some time to explore our website and see what treasures you can find!

Email Of The Week

Sometimes things happen with a timing that scares me. No sooner had I sent off this week’s lesson on Harvest Moon to Paul, I received two emails from Switzerland. One was, believe it or not, a request for Harvest Moon as a lesson. The other was a request for a few other songs. When I replied to the second email to let the reader know I’d gotten the request and to inform him of the latest lesson, I received this note:

Hi David,

One more thing…before I started reading and trying out your songs I didn’t bother listening to Neil Young…now I am his biggest fan…

And that sort of made my day…

Sunday Songwriters Group

Year Three, Week 11

Structure (part 1): This week we’re going to take a look at overall structure. So, quite simply, for this week I’d like a song (any style, any topic) in the following format.

Verse -> Chorus -> Verse -> Chorus -> Bridge -> Verse -> Chorus

Depends how you write your songs but this should be fairly straightforward.

Good writing

Bob

Thoughts & Feedback

As I mentioned at the top of the newsletter, well, maybe not directly but I think it’s a fairly good inference, I’ve very badly managed my time this week and, with all apologies, I have to keep this issue of Guitar Noise News fairly short. But we’ll be back next week with more lessons, an interview and a note on the best New Year’s Resolution you could set for yourself!

Until then, I hope you all have a grand week. Stay safe.

And, as always,

Peace

David
