James LaBrie’s MullMuzzler 2

Ex-Dream Theatre frontman James LaBrie comes to us with an exciting solo album.

Don’t worry if you missed MullMuzzler 1, you won’t be lost; this album stands out all on its own. At times reminiscent of Leonardo where LaBrie does the voice of Leonardo, and also due to the fact that Trent Gardner is also present on this album, LaBrie nevertheless takes on a direction of his own.

One thing I particularly enjoy about LaBrie is his unique voice. It doesn’t remind you of someone else’s, it stands out by itself.

The album goes in several directions, yet treads a clear path which is easy to follow. Basically, just put the CD, press play and enjoy!

Don’t expect to hear Dream Theatre as this is not the direction of this album. If I had to compare it to someone else’s work I’d probably say John Wetton. Not that it sounds like Wetton, but there is a clear distinction between band work and solo work and, like Wetton’s solo albums, this is much more song oriented.

Extremely well produced and a great groove. I definitely recommend this.
